Aeristo has introduced AERIA, a leather wallcovering concept designed specifically for aircraft cabins that integrates lighting directly within the material to create a calmer and more immersive passenger environment.

Developed around the relationship between light and material, AERIA rethinks how illumination is used inside an aircraft. Rather than treating lighting as a separate design feature, Aeristo has embedded it into the leather wall surface itself, allowing light to become a natural part of the cabin architecture. The approach is intended to create a soft, continuous glow that enhances comfort during long journeys without drawing unnecessary attention.

The design centres on a philosophy of calm and restraint. Aircraft cabins are spaces where passengers spend extended periods of time, often transitioning through different phases of travel. AERIA responds to this environment by providing a balanced and consistent lighting presence that supports relaxation and spatial clarity.

Precision-cut geometry within the leather controls how light passes through the surface. The pattern is deliberately subtle, guiding light gently rather than producing sharp visual contrast. When illuminated, the leather diffuses the light to produce a smooth and ambient glow that adds depth and softness to the sidewalls. When the lighting is switched off, the surface retains a refined and tactile quality, maintaining a clean and timeless appearance.

Material performance was central to the development of the concept. Aeristo studied leather thickness, grain structure, flexibility and the way the material reacts to backlighting in order to ensure both realism and manufacturability. The spacing and intensity of the integrated lighting were carefully calibrated to maintain visual comfort while avoiding glare and preserving continuity throughout the cabin.

According to Aeristo, AERIA is intended to enhance the overall passenger experience through subtle integration rather than visual spectacle.
