Perini Navi has launched S/Y Katana, a 60 metre sailing ketch conceived to reaffirm the essence of large sailing yachts while meeting contemporary expectations for performance, comfort and technical refinement. Developed on Perini Navi’s established 60 metre ketch platform, Katana builds on a proven lineage while introducing a renewed focus on lightness, control and fluidity, resulting in a yacht defined by balance and authentic life under sail.

From the outset, the design brief called for a harmonious coexistence of advanced naval engineering, refined spatial quality and a deep respect for sailing culture. Naval architecture by Perini Navi provides confident seakeeping and efficiency across a wide range of conditions. An aluminium hull and superstructure ensure strength and durability, while extensive use of carbon technology in the masts, booms and rigging significantly reduces weight aloft, enhancing responsiveness and sailing performance.

Versatility was a central consideration. Katana is designed to operate comfortably across diverse cruising grounds, from open waters to more confined or environmentally sensitive areas. A retractable keel allows access to shallow waters without compromising sailing capability, while a dynamic positioning system enables precise station keeping, supporting both safety and environmental awareness.

The interior design, developed by Rémi Tessier, follows a philosophy of restraint and spatial clarity. Interiors are conceived as calm, continuous environments shaped by fluid lines, balanced proportions and carefully selected materials. Rather than filling volumes, space itself becomes an active design element, allowing light, surfaces and geometry to define the atmosphere. Accommodation comprises six cabins, including an owner’s suite and five guest staterooms, arranged to ensure privacy, comfort and continuity throughout the yacht.

Interior execution by Metrica GmbH required exceptional craftsmanship to realise complex concave and convex surfaces, refined material junctions and strict tolerances. The result is a sailing yacht where advanced technology, disciplined design and artisanal skill align, delivering an experience defined by composure, coherence and a deep connection to the act of sailing.
