Perched on a dramatic 23-acre site just outside Breckenridge,
Bourbonhaus is a 700 square-meter primary residence designed
for a family of four seeking panoramic views, durable materials,
and spaces tailored to an active, creative lifestyle. Named due
to the owner’s career as an award-winning bourbon distiller, the
home’s design is expressive yet grounded, refined without
formality. Early collaboration with the Town of Breckenridge
allowed the Architect to rotate the original disturbance
envelope, optimizing solar orientation while framing sweeping
views of Breckenridge Ski Area. As a result, every major space
engages the surrounding alpine landscape.

The great room forms the heart of the home, wrapped in clerestory windows and opened to the outdoors through a 12.5 foot-tall NanaWall Cero system.

A full-length deck extends the living space outward, hovering above the walkout lower level. A flexible homework room for the family’s teenage sons opens fully via pocketed corner sliders, while a discreet guest primary suite is tucked nearby. The owners’ primary suite occupies the opposite wing, buffered by a glass-enclosed office with a three sided fireplace. Floor-to-ceiling glazing in both bedroom and bath creates the sensation of floating above the valley.

The lower level is dedicated to gathering and retreat, featuring a family room, game room, and bar, supported by a wine room, mixing lab, and hidden speakeasy. En-suite bedrooms, a bunkroom, gym, and sauna complete a home that is equal parts family lodge, creative retreat, and modern mountain residence.
