Alexandra Dixon Interiors has transformed a first-floor apartment in an 1860s property near Holland Park into a sophisticated haven of modern luxury. Situated on prestigious Phillimore Gardens in Kensington, the property once served as both a private residence and an art gallery, requiring careful planning and a meticulous design approach to realise its full potential.

The brief for Alexandra Dixon Interiors was clear: to reimagine the space as a timeless, luxurious retreat for a busy couple. With a longstanding relationship with the client spanning three previous projects, the studio was entrusted with significant creative freedom. The design prioritised functionality, seamless integration of artwork, and a refined aesthetic that honoured the property’s historical character while incorporating contemporary elegance.

Key design challenges included strict building regulations, structural considerations, and the need to enhance sound insulation. Lighting solutions played a pivotal role in the project, with Alexandra Dixon Interiors compensating for limited natural light in the central hallway and maximising the bay window’s light at the front of the property. Architectural and design teams worked in harmony to ensure that lighting, panelling, and furniture layouts complemented the client’s art collection.

Exceptional joinery stands out as a highlight of the project. In the sitting room, slim shelving units with accented architraves and subtle lighting frame the fireplace beautifully. The master bedroom features custom cabinetry with dark wood interiors and orange leather-lined drawers, while the study’s bespoke design combines practical storage with workspace functionality.

The turnkey project, completed in December 2023, included every detail, from furniture sourced at Milan’s Salone del Mobile to artwork placement and even wine chilling in the fridge. Alexandra Dixon Interiors delivered an immaculate, ready-to-live-in home, seamlessly blending historical grandeur with modern luxury.
