Renowned for its literary heritage and as home to legendary Spanish writers Cervantes and Lope de Vega, the neighbourhood’s cultural essence became the foundation of the design.

The International Hotel & Property Awards 2025
ASAH Studios’ approach began with extensive research into the area’s history, architecture, and artistic legacy. This immersion informed a design that pays homage to the neighbourhoods cultural significance while meeting the luxurious standards of the Meliá Collection. The printing house next to the hotel, where the first edition of Cervantes’ Don Quixote was printed, inspired a century of writers, making the Barrio de las Letras a unique place in the world. In tribute to this literary legacy, the hotel is dedicated to Cervantes and his brilliant work, featuring curated art that celebrates his influence, including Dalí illustrations in noble areas and Gustave Doré works in all rooms.
One of the key challenges was integrating four historic buildings into a cohesive whole. ASAH Studios achieved this through a spectacular axis that links Calle Atocha and Calle de Moratín, creating a functional and elegant gallery. This central space connects the reception, conference rooms, an interpretation centre, an indoor pool, a bookstore, a cinema, and guest rooms, bringing harmony and purpose to the complex.
The design preserves and enhances the architectural details of the buildings while seamlessly integrating modern elements. By blending historical charm with contemporary luxury, ASAH Studios has created a cultural hub that not only honours the Barrio de las Letras but enhances its cultural landscape. This project redefines hospitality design, offering guests an authentic connection to Madrid’s literary and cultural heritage.
