This project involved the meticulous restoration and interior design of a five-bedroom early Victorian redbrick residence, originally constructed in 1859 and spanning approximately 404 square metres across four levels. Led by Ash Wilson Design, the transformation honours the home’s historic fabric while adapting it seamlessly for contemporary family life.

Much of the original architectural detailing-sash windows, ornate ceiling roses, and intricate cornicing-was preserved and, where necessary, reinstated using traditional methods and materials. The restoration-first approach ensured that the integrity of the 19th-century structure remained intact, laying the foundation for a sophisticated, modern interior.
Commissioned by a young family, the brief was to create a space that could evolve with their lifestyle-combining refined elegance with warmth, comfort, and durability. Ash Wilson Design responded with a vision that layered classical detailing with clean contemporary lines, natural textures, and thoughtfully curated vintage pieces. The result is an environment that is both timeless and tailored, blending character with modernity.
Bespoke joinery, material continuity, and a focus on layered, tactile surfaces all contribute to a cohesive and emotionally resonant interior. Every design decision was made with intention, from the restoration of historical features to the integration of functional modern elements that support everyday living and entertaining.
The completed home achieves a delicate balance between preservation and progression. It tells a story-one that respects its 1859 origins while embracing the rhythm and needs of contemporary life. The outcome is a residence that feels quietly luxurious, deeply personal, and entirely livable.
