The 90-year-old lakeside resort hotel has been reimagined by BABID into a lifestyle destination, shifting from group banquets to individual stays. Surrounded by Fujikawaguchiko’s natural beauty, the hotel is ideal for long-term stays and workcations. Large desk counters, crafted from locally sourced thinned wood, integrate sustainability with functionality.

The International Hotel & Property Awards 2025
Inspired by the landscape, BABID designed custom carpets reflecting lake ripples, lush mountains, and Mt. Fuji’s energy. Interior fabrics, woven in collaboration with a local textile producer, showcase the town’s 1,000-year weaving heritage. A striking gradation wallpaper, made by gluing natural hemp thread to Japanese paper and dyeing it, captures the morning mist over the lake.
The lounge offers breathtaking lake views, especially during magic hour, with over 50 washi paper light fixtures creating an atmospheric glow. BABID’s lighting design subtly integrates Hokusai Katsushika’s Mount Fuji motif, blending tradition with artistry.
Instead of demolishing the 70-year-old West Wing and 40-year-old lobby, BABID prioritised sustainability, preserving structures and incorporating regional craftsmanship. Local artisans—woodworkers, tatami makers, indigo dyers, bamboo weavers, and glass and iron artists—infused their expertise into the interiors. Through this holistic design approach, BABID not only revitalised the hotel but also championed environmental responsibility and cultural heritage, immersing guests in nature and tradition.
