Shortlisted: Hotel Under 200 Rooms Award
The International Hotel & Property Awards 2025
Executed in close collaboration with the Federal Office for the Protection of Monuments and Vienna’s MA 19, the project reflects meticulous planning and stakeholder engagement. A key feature is a new pedestrian bridge linking Kirchplatz and Tuchlauben, enhancing accessibility and connectivity within the neighbourhood.
Sustainability and urban livability were central to the refurbishment. New entrances between Petersplatz and Tuchlauben create a vibrant thoroughfare, enriching the urban fabric. The previously underutilised top floor has been reimagined as a public restaurant with a wind-protected roof garden and rooftop bar, offering breathtaking views of Vienna’s skyline. This addition caters not only to hotel guests but also to locals and tourists, further integrating the project into the city’s cultural and social life.
BEHF Architects’ innovative approach underscores the importance of sustainable design and adaptive reuse, setting a benchmark for urban revitalisation. By harmonising historic preservation with modern functionality, this project represents a significant milestone in Vienna’s inner-city development.
