Bells + Whistles, the Los Angeles–based interior design studio, has unveiled a thoughtful reimagining of Providence, the acclaimed two-Michelin star restaurant co-owned by Chef Michael Cimarusti, Cristina Echiverri, and Donato Poto. Guided by a vision that reflects the refined simplicity of Chef Cimarusti’s cuisine and the purity of the ocean’s flavor, the studio sought to create a minimalist yet immersive dining experience that elevates the culinary journey.

The redesigned space subtly evokes the convergence of ocean and sky, achieved through nuanced design gestures such as hand-troweled ombré Venetian plaster walls suggestive of deep sea gradients, and a ripple-effect broadloom carpet that flows like waves through the dining rooms. Interruptions of green terrazzo tile contribute to a sense of discovery and movement.

Bells + Whistles prioritized a “stage-like” approach, allowing the food, wine, and synchronized service to become the focal point. The design intentionally fades into the background, offering minimal distractions while enhancing the overall guest experience.

Central to the redesign was an in-depth consultation with the Providence team-chefs, owners, and servers alike-to understand daily workflows and spatial challenges. This collaboration led to strategic changes in circulation, sightlines, and table layouts, optimizing both service and guest interaction.

While elegant finishes and bespoke furnishings enrich the environment, the deeper transformation lies in how the space functions. With a holistic design approach, Bells + Whistles has created a refined, purposeful setting that honors both the artistry of the kitchen and the rhythm of the dining room.
