BEL AIR RESIDENCE BY DE LA TORRE DESIGN STUDIO
This stunning residency in Bel Air, California is a delicate balance of old and new. The original Tudor structure by Hollywood architect Paul Williams is given a modernist update with the help of a bold new colour palette, organic textures, and the client’s exceptional art collection. In order to avoid the monotony of all white rooms, de la Torre applied the “compression-expansion” effects of alternating light and dark. Asian elements (a nod to the client’s heritage) mingle effortlessly with Western and modern elements.
De La Torre Design Studio have been shortlisted for Luxury Residence – Americas Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards.

How would you describe your personal design style?
Bold, Collected and Unexpected. The goal for the spaces we design is to always evoke emotion by providing our client with a design that functions specifically for them and by finding pieces that have their own personality or story. Rhythm has always been the design principle I am intrigued most by… How your eye trails across a room and which journey it takes. I believe a room can offer a small exploration for its inhabitants and guests.

The challenge for Kobi Karp Architecture & Interior Design in this residence was to blend in a sophisticated and modern style with the existing Florida vernacular architecture.
The North Bay Road Residence is the perfect blend of two seemingly different styles in one space. The design is a modern flair of Florida’s vernacular architecture. Using Florida’s traditional cracker design and mixing it with a fresh and modern aesthetic, The North Bay Road Residence is a new interpretation of home design in ostentatious Miami.
