AQUA HONG KONG / AQUA RESTAURANT GROUP BY ROBERT ANGELL DESIGN INTERNATIONAL

Robert Angell Design International have been shortlisted for Restaurant – Asia Pacific Award in The International Hotel and Property Awards 2022.

The concept for the design is from the rich history of Hong Kong as a trading city and its rich cultural traditions in craftsmanship. That combined with its location and the world’s largest natural harbour using the water and aqua as the true inspiration which in its many forms can evolve into colour, light & dark, tone & texture. The designers have taken materials used to create bespoke wall finishes to the negative forms the ripples of waves which gives a unique pallet of forms and colours to which help shape and craft the bars.

Beautiful patterns of nature have inspired Robert Angell to create gaufrage presser patterned wall feature panels that have a beauty that you want to touch. The way in which water give form to soft shapes & their fluid connections to each other in has inspired them to make the connections and create the spaces as vibrant and exciting interiors In which to dine and indulge.

THE PARK SUITE AT THE STAFFORD HOTEL BY ROSENDALE DESIGN

The Park Suite retains the quintessential British roots the Stafford are known for and Rosendale Design employed British brands to help root the new design. Due to the hotel’s close proximity to St. James Park and Green Park, a floral concept was employed.

The design brief was to reimagine the main house rooms at the hotel, taking into the next chapter of the hotel’s fabled history. The client team were keen to see how they could better utilise smaller rooms without losing too many ‘keys’. The Stafford is renowned with North American and International guests and gives its clientele a quintessential British experience. Retaining these roots were of paramount importance.

David Collins Studio

LEWIS TAYLOR, DESIGN DIRECTOR OF DAVID COLLINS STUDIO

Tell us a little about your background in design (education, experience, etc)
BA – Product and furniture design, DeMontfort University
MA- Design Products- Royal College of Art
Nearly 15 years at David Collins Studio

Where does your design inspiration come from?
All around and from many sources, including art, fashion, food and architecture. I would say mostly from travel (which has been a little difficult over the past 12 months!), but even travel around the UK is very inspiring. At David Collins Studio we are lucky to design spaces all around the globe so travelling to see these projects is a real source of inspiration for me.

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?
With the pandemic and the blurring of home and office life, I think that residential design will see more flexible and adaptable spaces within the home that can allow for working environments that don’t overtake your living space and can be closed off to maintain some division between home and work. In hospitality I also think we will see a lot more consideration for outdoor dining spaces and how these can comfortably operate throughout the year.
