Tell us a little about your background in the sector (education, experience, etc)
The studio was born in 2013 in Rome from my will, but everything began several years earlier: my profession as a designer began in the Car Design sector, where I worked for many years. I took my first steps inside the Bertone style center in Caprie in the province of Turin, after which I went on to work first at the style center of the famous car manufacturer Lamborghini in Sant’Agata Bolognese (MO), and then the leap to the Advance Design Style Center of the Volkswagen Group in Brausnchweigh, Germany, where I stayed for several years. In those years it was led directly by Walter De Silva, a leading figure of Italian design in the world, and there I had the opportunity to work on important projects concerning cars of all the brands owned by the Volkswagen Group, such as Audi, Porsche, Bentley, etc., and where I had the chance to learn so much, comparing myself with talents from all over the world.

But since my first day of work in the world of Car design I started in parallel my path within the Yacht design sector, carried by a great passion transferred to me by my family and born in me since I was a child where I started to experience boats, to practice different water sports and to understand what it meant to go to sea. So I started working as a freelancer for some important Yacht Design studios in Italy and abroad, and then I looked for every good opportunity to face directly to the Shipbuilders and propose them my ideas and new projects I had in mind.

In 2013 I then decided to better structure this professional reality and open my Yacht Design studio in Rome under the name BG Design Firm, where for years now I have been joined by my collaborators such as Lorenzo Rispoli, Ermelinda and Alessandro Giomi, and we work for different Italian Shipyards.

How would you describe your design ethos?
It is always fundamental that the aesthetics make sense and are motivated, from the very first designs we try to give a lot of attention to the technical aspects, we don’t aim to make only beautiful things but we always have in mind that boats are means of transportation and means on which you have to be able to live or otherwise spend days. For this reason, it is fundamental first of all to understand what kind of boat we are designing, a day-cruiser, a shuttle, a fast boat… so as to respect the right technical and functional characteristics and requirements of the final product.
Aesthetics must go hand in hand with function, the boat is not just a work of art but must be a work of art that must function.

Where does your design inspiration come from?
The inspiration for our projects comes from all design worlds. From aviation, automotive, industrial design and interior design, but also from the world of art and architecture. In our opinion, the boat must sum up every stylistic influence. Of course, you always have to understand what kind of boat you are designing and especially for what shipyard or client, and then based on this information figure out how futuristic or modern a boat should be or instead should have a more traditional style.
