Blainey North has undertaken a remarkable interior design project, transforming a historic residence with a bold, innovative vision inspired by Robert Hughes’ legacy of democratizing art. The brief for this project was to create a home that maximized its North-Eastern aspect, celebrating its European heritage, including its quirky details and design moments. Blainey North aimed to make the home feel young, fun, and creative—a perfect venue for hosting lively parties. The challenge was to achieve a cohesive overall design that still allowed for individual moments and unique experiences within the space.

Drawing inspiration from the Young British Art Movement, the design respects the home’s architecture, restoring it to its natural raw beauty before introducing contemporary cultural elements that reflect the youthful spirit of its occupants. The project captures the essence of Hughes’ vision by working with young, radical artisans who utilize new-age materials to create interiors that stand outside traditional design discourses.

The resulting design is a harmonious blend of heritage and surprise. The home retains its historical framework while incorporating unexpected modern elements, making it feel both cohesive and full of delightful surprises. This approach creates a vibrant, youthful atmosphere that is perfectly suited to the home’s new inhabitants.
