The creation of Stellar Jay required Fowler to balance bold, nature-inspired aesthetics with the practical demands of an active rooftop venue. Sustainability remained a central priority, prompting the team to devote considerable care to the conscious sourcing of materials that aligned with both environmental goals and the overarching design vision. Additionally, the challenge of cultivating a warm and welcoming atmosphere within a rooftop environment, exposed to Denver’s dramatic seasonal climate variations, necessitated innovative material selections and thoughtful spatial planning. Through these efforts, Fowler succeeded in crafting a space that is both dynamic and enduring.
Stellar Jay delivers an immersive rooftop experience that honors the natural beauty of Colorado while situated at the heart of downtown Denver. Conceived by the interior design firm Fowler, the lively rooftop restaurant, positioned within the Populus Hotel, embodies a refined celebration of colour, light, and regional inspiration. Its design draws from the lush canopy of the Aspen tree and the subtle ways in which it transforms throughout the seasons. In alignment with the restaurant’s nature-focused wood-fire culinary concept, the interior features a palette of saturated greens and warm gold tones, complemented by distinctive Aspen-eye–shaped windows and terrace landscaping by Superbloom. Together, these elements create a seamless dialogue between natural inspiration and contemporary urban sophistication.
