Hamilford Design has recently unveiled their latest project, a lakeside family retreat where sleek Scandinavian design meets British countryside living. Nestled in the picturesque Cotswolds, this stunning residence seamlessly blends the clients’ Dutch origins with the charm of the local landscape.

The clients, hailing from the Netherlands, desired a Scandinavian-influenced house that also embraced the Cotswolds charm. Their vision was to create an inviting space that welcomed the outdoors indoors and encouraged countryside living as an escape from the city hustle.

Key features of the design include a boot room, outside decking, and balconies, strategically designed to allow the family to fully immerse themselves in the lakeside surroundings. The master bedroom boasts floor-to-ceiling windows, offering breathtaking views of the protected landscape designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Central to the design brief was the emphasis on entertaining guests. Hamilford Design installed bespoke bunk beds to maximize space, while the open-plan living and dining areas facilitate communal gatherings. The dining space, positioned to maximize views, features statement lighting to impress visitors.

The top floor houses a games room with a tailor-made bar, perfect for enjoying drinks while indulging in a game of billiards. Original artworks adorn the walls, enhancing the room’s ambiance. However, the highlight of the project is the top floor billiards room, featuring sleek design elements, expansive balcony views, and a handmade billiards table as the focal point.

Embracing country living, the design incorporates large, unobstructed windows and natural materials, such as wood and stone, sourced from local tradespeople. Sustainability was also prioritised, with eco-friendly choices made to minimise the impact on the protected landscape, including the use of candlelight instead of outdoor electric lighting.

Hamilford Design has created a cohesive and stylish retreat that perfectly mirrors the clients’ Scandinavian heritage while celebrating the beauty of the British countryside.
