Hancock Architects has expertly transformed Queen, an 1872 heritage shop in Woollahra, into a glamorous and light-filled family sanctuary. Nestled on one of the suburb’s most vibrant streets, the project reimagines the historic building as a private courtyard-style home tailored to the needs of its new owners and their young adult children.
The design began with a meticulous restoration of the shop’s original façade, carefully reinstating its heritage detailing to preserve its street presence. To create a tranquil family space behind the bustling streetscape, Hancock Architects introduced a new entry tucked discreetly to the side, concealed by a detailed metal gate. Unsympathetic modern additions at the rear were removed, making way for an expansive family living space seamlessly connected to a landscaped private courtyard.
