Hill House Interiors has completed the thoughtful reinvention of a much loved Mediterranean villa in Spain, transforming the property into a calm and contemporary home shaped by light, continuity and evolving family life. The project marked a meaningful return for Hill House Interiors, which had originally designed the villa more than sixteen years ago for the same long standing clients.

The International Design & Architecture Awards 2026
Over the years the house had hosted countless summers and family gatherings, yet the interiors no longer reflected how the owners lived today. While the architecture remained strong and characterful, Hill House Interiors recognised that the interior scheme had become fragmented, with individual rooms defined by contrasting colour palettes and stylistic identities. What began as a practical refurbishment to address outdated bathroom drainage gradually expanded into a comprehensive redesign including seven bathrooms, new flooring and a complete interior renewal.
Hill House Interiors approached the project with sensitivity, preserving the villa’s Mediterranean spirit while introducing a quieter and more cohesive design language. A softer palette, layered textures and carefully considered materials replaced the previously contrasting schemes, allowing each space to feel harmonious while retaining its own character.
A dramatic highlight is the reimagined double height living room. Framing sweeping Mediterranean views, the space is anchored by a striking 7.5 metre fireplace reclad in delicately veined porcelain panels detailed with intricate metal inlays. Beneath the seating area, a custom rug subtly echoes the movement of water beyond the glazing, while new architectural sofas sit alongside reupholstered armchairs retained from the original scheme.
Hill House Interiors also strengthened the connection between indoors and outdoors. Expansive sliding glass doors open onto a tranquil patio, while a newly created pool house functions as a vibrant social hub complete with open plan lounging, dining and a fully equipped outdoor entertaining area. Completed within a year, the renovation honours the villa’s history while guiding it confidently into its next chapter.
