Located in Paradise Valley, Arizona, and set against the scenic Camelback Golf Course, the transformation of this 1977 estate pays homage to the original architecture while introducing a vibrant, contemporary spirit.

The International Design & Architecture Awards 2025
The project is anchored in a bold aesthetic that celebrates midcentury modern design. Homesmith Design preserved standout architectural features such as the original beehive fireplace, exposed beams, and wood panelling, and juxtaposed them with modern elements like walnut cabinetry, terrazzo flooring, and custom marble slabs. The result is a layered interior that feels both nostalgic and fresh, catering to the homeowner’s desire for a space that is visually striking yet functional.
A major design focus was the integration of indoor and outdoor living. Expansive windows and sliding glass doors lead to a thoughtfully reimagined backyard that includes a pool, firepit, and an entertainer’s patio with a dramatic pergola. The pergola, designed with a custom metal sunscreen made of triangles, acts as a sculptural focal point that ties the entire exterior to the home’s retro modern theme.
The outdoor living area is a highlight of the project, featuring a fireplace as its centerpiece and bold Kettal furnishings that create a relaxed but sophisticated setting. A custom outdoor kitchen and large limestone dining table support effortless al fresco dining, while vibrant colours and textiles inspired by the homeowner’s vintage Fiestaware add playful charm.
By blending architectural preservation with bold updates, Homesmith Design has created a home that is both timeless and tailored to the modern lifestyle. The Caballo Project stands as a unique example of how retro style and luxury living can coexist beautifully.
