The International Hotel & Property Awards 2026

AC Hotel Bentonville, a five-story, 90,000+ square-foot property comprising 153 rooms, a rooftop lounge, and extensive flexible meeting and event spaces, anchors the urban edge of the Walmart campus. INK+ORO led the interior design, tasked with translating the streamlined, modern European DNA of the AC Hotels brand into a contextually rich and regionally authentic destination. The project sought to honor the brand’s aesthetic while embedding Bentonville’s cultural identity, reflecting its significance as a signature location within the evolving corporate campus.

The design response emphasizes duality: refined European restraint is balanced with tactile warmth, regional materiality, and narrative-driven detailing. Bentonville’s identity as an outdoor destination—celebrated for mountain biking, trails, and natural landscapes—informed both palette and spatial strategy. Natural wood tones, exposed structural elements, and black brick drawn from the exterior architecture create visual continuity between interior and exterior. Structural columns feature raw timber wrapping while retaining exposed concrete, celebrating authenticity over concealment.

Art serves as a central storytelling device, most notably the custom ceramic installation Meander by Arkansas-based artist Dawn Holder, commissioned for the reception backdrop. Drawing inspiration from the Buffalo River, oak trees, and Ozark topography, the artwork physically embeds the local landscape within the hotel and reinforces regional collaboration.

The lobby emphasizes emotional experience through a three-sided fireplace clad in locally sourced stone, creating a residential, welcoming atmosphere. Diverse seating arrangements—from lounge groupings to window-side work perches—support both social connection and individual productivity.

INK+ORO also introduced meaningful deviations from the brand prototype, including a rooftop restaurant layered with archival imagery, curated artifacts, and storytelling referencing Walmart’s history and local culture. The result is a hotel that emerges naturally from its context, balancing brand rigor with emotional authenticity. Coury Hospitality described it as the “warmest AC” experience encountered, affirming the effectiveness of this thoughtful, regionally rooted design approach.
