Lurssen & Dasha Moranova Designs were the winners of Concept Over 40 Metres Award in The International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2022.

ALICE – A Lürssen Innovative Concept Experience – is a one-of-a-kind concept by German shipyard Lurssen. She is a 98-metre emission-free model that has emerged from the desire to create something different. Sustainability, nature and wellbeing were the keywords of the design. It is a project that shows the capabilities of the future of yacht design, and that the key players of the Superyacht industry such as Lürssen shipyard are taking our future seriously.

The five-deck climate-neutral yacht features a floating, pod-like superstructure, which houses the owner’s deck and bridge, and an open-air main deck. A full-sized Padel court sits aft, with a dance floor, bar and dining area amidships, and forward a Japanese-themed garden with ponds, greenery and a bridge. A floating glass-bottomed pool suspended across an opening in the sun deck adds a wow factor. Powered by emission-free fuel cells that generate electrical energy based on hydrogen, Alice is also equipped with a methanol engine for higher speed and energy demands. A waste heat recovery system, organically farmed wood and eight lower deck guest suites complete the offering, with interior design by Dasha Moranova Designs.

The overall design is harmonious and peaceful. The magnificent architectural elements, open spaces, high ceilings and large windows draw in natural light and sea views. Its different spaces and levels are connected with one design story and a soft colour palette whilst carrying a respectful connection with nature. Though Alice is a rare concept from Lurssen, it features technologies and developments for sustainable yachting that the shipyard has implemented on yachts today. This includes the use of parks and ponds to transform the yacht’s deck into a natural paradise, which – when combined with the living walls in the interior – create a unique ecosystem onboard, and replacing the teak with fast-growing and lightweight organically framed wood that meets the high standard for yachts with the same exquisite look and feel.
