Boeing Business Jets x Mark Berryman Design
Boeing Business Jets and Mark Berryman Design have been shortlisted for Private Jet Design Award in The International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2022.
Aviation and Yacht design share similar aesthetic synergies yet the scale and functionality of a BBJ, used as a work environment, provided Mark Berryman Design with space planning and ergonomic opportunities and challenges.
Mark Berryman Design collaborated with Boeing Business Jets to produce a unique new concept. They had the opportunity to look at various proposals but opted for an Executive jet layout. The aim, firstly, was to make the spaces function. This is always top of the list. An interior must function extremely well first, then the aesthetic comes into play.
Mark Berryman Design’s “In-House Style” was a great approach for BBJ as there aren’t many executive jets in this style. A younger client base could find this contemporary style with Asian accents interesting. The brief was kept fairly loose to try and keep the creative side flowing. It was stressed that multi-functional spaces would play an important role. Multifunctional spaces are becoming increasingly popular on luxury yachts and they are always an interesting challenge. This became even more important on the executive jet, as desk spaces needed to convert into sleeping spaces.
The neutral colour palette and choice of materials enhance the feeling of a comfortable, natural interior while prioritizing functionality. Their designs have a warmth and richness without feeling too opulent or overdesigned – a very different interpretation compared to alternative concepts available on the open market.
The Executive design proposal has a streamlined approach and layout to accommodate a working environment. It includes an open lounge fully equipped with individual workstations for twelve people with integrated printers. This area can also be converted into sleeping quarters offering the users plenty of flexibility. Towards the rear there is a more private combined space for sleeping and working, suitable for either a couple or two CEO’s.
The mood of the interior is relaxed because nothing jumps out at you and the natural materials create a subdued and subtle style. These finishes have been proven to relax the mind. The spaces are modular and small niches allow for objects to be integrated, creating a more personal feel to the space. Executive jets allow passengers to focus on their work whilst travelling and having clean lines and a relaxed feel allows the users to concentrate on the job in hand.
