jozeph forakis … design have been shortlisted for Interior Design Award (Under 40 Metres) in The International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2023.
The award-winning CLX96 features a striking profile and sophisticated open-plan interior that offers a seamless connection with nature and elevates the yachting experience to uncharted levels of luxury. Her rugged performance is mirrored by her unique aesthetic, which masterfully blends gracefulness and muscularity into a style that is “workboat chic”.
One of the primary aspects of this design is the extraordinary amount of glass. This is obvious on the main deck which is essentially entirely glass, but it is a theme that follows you everywhere inside the yacht also. From the large Portlights on the lower deck to the triple-folding doors that allows the main dining area to become Alfresco, the use of glass became key to the theme of integrating indoors and outdoors, as well as supporting the idea of transformational spaces. Blurring the lines between the interior and exterior, the main deck’s vast windows and tri-fold doors are echoed in the flybridge’s spectacular glazing with retractable windows on three sides, seamlessly leading guests from the Sky Lounge and Pilothouse to the Sky Deck alfresco dining area aft.
The interior decor is stylish yet discreet, reminiscent the simplicity and enjoyment of yachting rather than an attempt to bring a land-based home to the water. The relaxed, open-plan main deck interior features a convivial galley with sit-up bar and a bank of sofas, as well as a lounge and dining area that feel inviting and fresh. To celebrate the craftsmanship of the shipyard, jozeph forakis … design developed horizontal wooden strips as a design element that is introduced when you board the boat in the forward or midsection of the main salon. This feature continues as you descend into the lower deck, becoming slightly varied by its pairing with black reflective glass, which gives a sense of depth. These details were studied for proportion, and the technical details of the construction were prototyped numerous times until the designers found the right sense of the division in the space. The four guest cabins on the lower deck are spacious and bright thanks to large windows and high ceilings; the Master suite’s real skylight is paralleled by the VIP suite’s virtual skylight above the bed, which receives a feed from an on-deck camera.
The yacht places a focus on craftsmanship, across all aspects of its design. In the interior, all the built-in furniture and cabinetry are made using a honeycomb pattern in the woodwork, and all the natural stones and tiles are made using thin shaved stones slabs down to 6mm and backed with resin fused foam core, showcasing a high level of artistry and mastery of natural, bold, and noble materials. These are then combined with high-tech materials in a celebration of technology and craftsmanship, such as carbon fibre and Fenix, which complement the natural wood, stone, or leather, that allows the interiors to go beyond what is expected.
