CLX96, The world’s first Sea Activity Vessel – SAV by jozeph forakis … design

jozeph forakis … design have been shortlisted for the Main Salon Award in  The International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2023.

The CLX96 offers a connection to nature and a unique aesthetic that elevates the yachting experience to uncharted levels of luxury. With innovation, style, and comfort, she blurs the lines between interior and exterior spaces and has been conceived as a celebration of craftsmanship.

A primary aspect of this design is the use of glass. This is apparent on the main deck, which is almost entirely glass, with a strong composite framework integrated into the design. One of jozeph forakis … design’s main concepts was to have nature ‘follow’ you through the yacht whilst complementing the idea of transformational spaces. Boarding from the AFT cockpit into the main Salon, the length of the yacht from Stern to Bow is visible, in addition to the almost 360 degrees views. The triangulated composite mullion framework provides a very strong structure while allowing thin corners, generating panoramic views in the main salon that is unusual on a boat of any size, much less a super yacht.

The design is led by the idea of a holistic hull and balanced proportions. Giving a basic design strong bones and balance at the core of its architecture and design became imperative to theCLX96 SAV. The interior decor is stylish yet discreet, masterfully blending gracefulness and muscularity, and placing a focus on simplicity and enjoyment. The relaxed, open-plan main deck interior features a convivial galley with sit-up bar and a bank of sofas, as well as a lounge and dining area that feel inviting and fresh. In the centre of the main salon, triple folding doors allow for a traditional, formal dining area which can be transformed to an Alfresco option.

The project celebrates CL Yachts’ unique craftsman traditions; there are few shipyards that take such painstaking efforts to create boats that are extraordinarily strong, but also lightweight. For the CLX96, all the built-in furniture and cabinetry are made using a honeycomb pattern in the woodwork and all the natural stones and tiles are made using thin shaved stones slabs down to 6mm and backed with resin fused foam core. Natural materials like wood, stone and leather are combined with high-tech materials, such as carbon fibre and Fenix to celebrate technology and craftsmanship. Going beyond this, joseph forakis…design developed a horizontal wooden strip motif that is introduced in the main salon, between the dining area and forward galley. This feature continues into the lower deck, varying slightly with black reflective glass, which gives a sense of depth with a mirrored effect. Construction was prototyped numerous times until the sense of division was proportionally correct.
