LOMOcean Marine have been shortlisted for Motor Yacht Under 25 Metres Award in The International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2022.

LOMOcean Marine believes design and construction of new craft and refits should do all possible to minimise the impact on the worlds resources and environmental impact whilst providing the ultimate comfort and safety to the end users. MollyMawk is a 24 metre, high efficiency, robust long-range ocean expedition passage maker, easily handled by two people. With her environmentally compassionate design features, recyclable construction material, fuel efficiency and lack of exterior fairing and painting, she is an embodiment of this core belief.

Her understated yet rugged exterior visual appearance suggests minimalism and conservation. Her name Mollymawk, a species of Albatross, is an insight to the primary goal of her design brief – to majestically wander the world’s oceans with graceful ease and minimal impact on her surrounds. Ultimate long-range capability is required, so optimising hull form and propulsion systems for fuel efficiency were paramount. She holds the ability to travel to remote locations efficiently whilst providing comfort and safety, with a minimal footprint environmentally, using end of life recyclable construction materials and minimising the use of paint finishes and the associated solvents and volatiles.

The craft needed to be easily handled by two people, (the owner and companion) so single-handed launch of both tenders was a requirement. The interior accommodation needed to be spacious and cater for a maximum of two couples. The construction materials are exceptionally robust, easy to repair in the unlikely event of damage yet still environmentally considerate, so where possible recycled and recyclable materials have been selected. It is important for LOMOcean Marine to minimise the use of chemicals, solvents, and waste not only during the construction process but ongoing maintenance requirements of the vessel. It was also a requirement of the design brief for the boat to have the ability to be beached for hull cleaning or repairs where normal haul out services are not available.

Designed to have the ultimate long-range capability, LOMOcean Marine’s MollyMawk must be safe in open sea in extreme weather conditions, ruggedly engineered, reliable and provide supreme comfort to those onboard whilst travelling to and spending extended periods of time in the most remote locations. These locations have no option for outside assistance so all systems onboard must have easily implemented back-ups that are serviceable by the owner/operator. Easy access to all systems is a high priority with dedicated service spaces.
