The Horizon Yacht FD103 ASKARI is the culmination of a lifetime devoted to the owners’ continual demand for the pinnacle of design- and a commitment to many more years of unfettered global roaming. This project is the first of Horizon’s newest FD100 models, which began as an FD92 but was extended to accommodate plentiful exterior areas. It is custom designed as a flexible semi-displacement, extended range explorer vessel with all the comforts of home.
ASKARI features three spacious decks including an open flybridge and a semi-enclosed skylounge, and offers a five stateroom layout. While the yacht features a traditional layout on the main deck, with an expansive aft deck, salon highlighted by full-height windows, and a formal dining area and galley forward, it is anything but traditional in its styling. ASKARI’s contemporary interiors by PLK Design shift from the expected formality of marine interiors. Reflecting the owners’ desire to have a ‘Hayman Island’ relaxed and elegant beach house feel on the water, whilst offering a focus to Australian designers, achieved a modern elegance with a casual feel. Australian furniture maker Jardan supplied much of the interior furniture, from the dining table and chairs to the tub chairs in the salon. The use of Australian designers continues in the lighting, with SØKTAS Hand Blown Glass Lighting providing the main ceiling feature light in the salon and wall lamps in the master stateroom.
Guest accommodations extend from the on-deck master to four staterooms on the lower deck. Forward there is a VIP and a twin with pullman which can be used as additional crew accommodation. The deck areas do not disappoint, with the semi-enclosed skylounge hosting a bar and seating area, and extending aft to a full dining area with a large jacuzzi tub. The submersible transom and foredeck house the 15ft Castoldi Jet Tender and two 3UP Spark Jetskis, while the open flybridge offers plentiful seating and sunbathing opportunities in addition to a second helm station.
Beautiful, hard-wearing and low-maintenance materials were used throughout to ensure ASKARI could achieve a minimal-fuss sanctuary, and flexible, open-plan spaces are a definite for the Australian market. The hi-lo Cambria stone divider to the saloon can be open or raised for privacy. The skylounge and pilot house is similar with wide sliding doors so the owner can be a part of the fun if they decide to take the helm. The lounge was finished with Westbury Textiles Toscana Indoor/Outdoor fabric to allow a seamless transfer from water sports and mask any paw prints from their owners’ Mini Schnauzers. ‘Sunsets in Santorini’ were the inspiration for the skylounge, resulting in a neutral and tonal palette; weatherproof retractable windows were chosen in this area to allow airflow was well as protection from the elements.
