PriestmanGoode have been shortlisted for the Cabin Design (Business & First Class) Award in  The International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2023.

PriestmanGoode was selected by Lufthansa to design a new First Class Suite in 2018. Through the brief, Lufthansa demonstrated a commitment to First Class products and challenged the design team to take it to a whole new level. The brief invited design ideas that were ‘more home than an aircraft’. Every aspect has been designed and developed from ground up.

The design language not only speaks of the future direction of the Lufthansa brand, but it’s also a signature project that is packed with features that will attract passengers that appreciate the level of comfort they expect to find at home or in the most premium vehicle brand – and that they can now enjoy in the air. The central part of the cabin sees the introduction of a First Class Suite Plus for the first time, designed for a couple travelling together or for an individual seeking the ultimate travel experience in terms of space and comfort. The project continued during 2020 with the team using VR technology to enable communication and facilitate decision making at key milestones.

The suite includes features that have not been seen previously onboard an A350 aircraft including the tallest soft panel close-outs to ensure total privacy. The double suite provides a double bed space and the electrical translating ottoman, not only provides storage space for hand luggage, but it also enables a real travelling together experience. If the design team had to select one favourite aspect it would be the comfort and fully adjustable kinematics which feature two unique pre-set recline positions and seat comfort features including heating, cooling and shoulder sink which are all controlled via a tablet size steering unit by the passenger, which also can be used as a e-reader for magazines and eJournals or as a virtual window to the outside.

Every aspect of the design aims to make the passenger experience easier and totally intuitive – and include moments of delight. The vast range of features have been carefully designed to be embedded within the suite and not distract from the ‘at home’ feel. The passengers booking the suites are very loyal and therefore the airline involved customers throughout the programme to validate design decisions and consequently the final outcome was warmly approved.
