How would you describe your personal design style?
As an interior designer, my personal design style is less important than drawing out the design preferences of my clients. My role is to listen to my clients’ vision for their space and use my expertise to bring their ideas to life in a cohesive and harmonious way. While I may have my own personal style, it is important for me to be able to adapt and incorporate a range of design styles in order to create a space that truly reflects my clients’ tastes and meets their needs. Ultimately, my goal is to create a timeless design that my clients will love and feel comfortable in for years to come.
Where does your design inspiration come from?
As an interior designer, I am constantly on the lookout for new design trends and inspirations. I stay up-to-date on the latest developments in my industry by reading design magazines, attending trade shows and workshops, and following leading designers on social media. I believe that it is important to keep an open mind and be receptive to new ideas and styles, as this allows me to bring a fresh perspective to my work and come up with creative and innovative design solutions.
In addition to staying current on trends within the design industry, I also find inspiration in a variety of other fields. I believe that design is a cross-disciplinary art, and I often draw inspiration from fields such as fashion, art, architecture, and even food and travel. This helps me to think outside the box and come up with unique and unexpected combinations that can add depth and character to a space. By constantly seeking out new sources of inspiration, I am able to stimulate my creative mind and come up with designs that are fresh, original, and truly one-of-a-kind.
In addition to staying current on trends and seeking inspiration from a variety of sources, I also enjoy experimenting with new materials. As an interior designer, I am always looking for ways to push the boundaries of traditional design and find new and innovative ways to use materials and finishes. I enjoy exploring the potential of emerging materials such as sustainable or recycled products, and I am always on the lookout for new and interesting finishes or textures that can add depth and character to a space. By constantly experimenting with new materials, I am able to create truly unique and individualized designs that stand out and make a statement.
In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?
Design is constantly evolving and changing, and it can be difficult to predict with certainty which direction it will move in next. However, there are a few general trends that seem to be shaping the design industry at the moment.
One trend that has been gaining traction in recent years is the focus on sustainability and eco-friendliness. More and more designers and consumers are looking for ways to create spaces that are environmentally responsible and use materials and products that have a minimal impact on the planet. This has led to an increase in the use of sustainable materials such as bamboo, cork, and recycled plastics, as well as the incorporation of energy-efficient features such as solar panels and LED lighting.
Another trend that seems to be gaining momentum is the use of technology in material science. Advances in technology are allowing designers to create new and innovative materials with a wide range of properties and applications. From self-healing concrete and temperature-regulating fabrics to biodegradable plastics and smart materials that change color or texture in response to stimuli, the possibilities are endless. This is not only opening up new possibilities for design, but it is also making it possible to create more sustainable and eco-friendly materials that can help to reduce our impact on the environment.
Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in 2023 and beyond.
If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to design schemes, what would it be?
One piece of advice when it comes to interior design schemes is to always start with a clear plan and vision. This means taking the time to carefully consider the purpose and function of the space, as well as the aesthetic preferences and needs of the people who will be using it. By starting with a clear plan and vision, you can ensure that your design scheme is cohesive, harmonious, and functional, and that it meets the needs and expectations of your clients. It is also important to be open to new ideas and approaches, and to be willing to adapt and revise your plan as needed. By approaching interior design with a clear and flexible mindset, you can create spaces that are truly unique, functional, and aesthetically pleasing.
What was your favourite project to work on and why?
One of my most enjoyable projects was designing the superyacht Dutch Falcon. I was given a high level of creative freedom on this project, which allowed me to come up with some truly unique and innovative ideas. In addition to using my creativity, I also leveraged my expertise in yacht design to create a functional and aesthetically pleasing design that met the needs of the client.
I utilized a range of advanced design techniques and technologies to bring the project to life, including 3D modeling and virtual reality simulations. It was exciting to use the latest tools and techniques to create a design that was cutting-edge.
Working on the Dutch Falcon was especially rewarding because I was able to use my skills and experience to create an exceptional result. It was a pleasure to collaborate with the talented team of designers and contractors, and to see the final product come to life.
What was your most challenging project to work on and why?
One of my most challenging projects to work on was a custom design for Lady Lene. This was a really tough project for a few reasons. For starters, the yacht had to be wheelchair accessible across multiple decks, so every inch had to be carefully planned out. That was a lot of work!
Another challenge was the level of customization. The client had very specific ideas about how they wanted the yacht to look and function, so it was my job to turn those ideas into a cohesive design. This took a lot of collaboration and communication with the client.
On top of all that, we had a tight timeline. I had to work fast to meet the deadlines, which added even more pressure.
Despite all the challenges, though, the custom superyacht design was a really rewarding project. Seeing the final result and knowing that I helped bring the client’s vision to life was a great feeling.

How important are The International Yacht & Aviation Awards?

Winning one of these awards is a significant achievement, and it demonstrates a high level of skill and expertise in these areas.
In addition, the awards are judged by broad but expert audience, which means that they provide a valuable benchmark for the state of the industry and can highlight innovative and noteworthy designs. This can be valuable information for designers and clients alike, as it can help to identify leading trends and ideas within the industry.
Finally, the International Yacht & Aviation Awards are important because they help to raise the profile and reputation of the winning designers and manufacturers. This can be especially valuable for emerging designers or those who are looking to break into these specialized areas of design.
Overall, I believe that the International Yacht & Aviation Awards are a valuable and prestigious event that helps to recognize and celebrate excellence in design within the yacht and aviation industries.

Final thoughts; tell us a little more about yourself and your daily inspirations:
As an interior designer, I find inspiration in a wide variety of sources, including my own curiosity and desire to learn and grow as a designer. I’m always looking for new ideas and ways to push the boundaries of design and create something unique and innovative.
One of my main sources of inspiration is my work with sophisticated clients. I enjoy getting to know my clients and understanding their preferences and needs, and this helps me come up with designs that are tailored specifically to them. Working with high-end clients is always a challenge, but it allows me to really push myself and create truly exceptional designs.
I’m also inspired by my travels and my experiences of the world. Whether I’m visiting a new city, exploring a remote village, or immersing myself in a different culture, I find that these experiences help me see the world in a new way and find inspiration for my designs.
I find that experiences in other areas, such as culinary experiences or encounters with different forms of art, can also have a stimulating impact on my creativity. These experiences allow me to see the world in new ways and to think about design in a different way. I find that combining ideas and inspiration from a variety of sources allows me to come up with truly unique and innovative designs.
Your most treasured possession?
As an interior designer, I value my brain above all else because it’s the source of my creativity and ability to come up with new ideas. Creativity is a crucial part of my job and my brain helps me think outside the box and come up with innovative design solutions. It is essential for solving problems and thinking critically. As a designer, I often face complex challenges that require me to think creatively and critically to find the best solutions.
Your favourite holiday destination?
Tuscany is my absolute favorite holiday destination. There is something about the serene calmness of the region that is incredibly soothing, and I always feel rejuvenated after a visit.
But it’s not just the peaceful atmosphere of Tuscany that I love. I also adore the food in Italy, and Tuscany is home to some of the best cuisine in the country. From the delicious pasta dishes to the amazing wines, there is so much to love about Italian food.
And of course, there is the magic of Tuscany. It’s hard to explain, but there are just certain “strings” that seem to be vibrating in a special way there. Whether it’s the stunning architecture, the breathtaking landscapes, or the rich history and culture, there is something truly magical about Tuscany that draws me in every time.
Your favourite hotel, restaurant & bar?
My favorite hotel is probably the Aman Tokyo. I love the sleek and modern design of the hotel, and the views of the city from the rooms are absolutely stunning. The service at the Aman Tokyo is also top-notch, and I appreciate the attention to detail and the personalized touches that make each stay feel truly special.
My favorite restaurant is probably Noma in Copenhagen. The food at Noma is simply amazing, with a focus on using fresh, local ingredients and presenting them in innovative and delicious ways. The atmosphere at Noma is also special, with a warm and welcoming vibe that makes it feel like a true home away from home.
As for my favorite bar, it’s a tough choice, but I would have to go with The Dead Rabbit in New York. The cocktails at The Dead Rabbit are truly exceptional, with a wide range of creative and delicious options to choose from. The atmosphere at The Dead Rabbit is also great, with a cozy and inviting ambiance that makes it a perfect spot to relax and unwind.
Your favourite book, film & song?
One book that caught my attention is “The Seven Lamps of Architecture” by John Ruskin.
First published in 1849, “The Seven Lamps of Architecture” is a treatise on the principles of architecture and design, and it is considered a classic of design literature. In the book, Ruskin explores the seven “lamps” of architecture, which he sees as the guiding principles of good design: sacrifice, truth, power, beauty, life, memory, and obedience.
Ruskin’s writing is eloquent and thought-provoking, and he makes a compelling case for the importance of design in the built environment. He argues that architecture has the power to uplift and enrich the lives of people, and he calls on designers to create buildings and spaces that are beautiful, functional, and meaningful.
Your favourite food and drink?
My favorite food is probably sushi. I love the fresh, clean flavors and the way that sushi can be both simple and complex at the same time. I also enjoy the ritual of eating sushi, with the custom of preparing and serving it adding to the overall experience.
As for my favorite drink, I would say that it is champagne. There is something special about the bubbles and the way that champagne can add a touch of elegance to any occasion. I also enjoy the wide variety of flavors that can be found in different types of champagne, and I appreciate the process of pairing different champagnes with different foods.
If you weren’t a designer, what would you be?
If I weren’t an interior designer, I think I would be a chemist. I have always been fascinated by the scientific process and the ways in which different substances interact with each other. I find chemistry to be a deeply intriguing and rewarding field, and I think I would enjoy the challenge of working in a laboratory and conducting experiments to understand the underlying principles of chemical reactions.
I also have a strong interest in design, and I think I would enjoy applying my problem-solving skills to the development of new chemical compounds and materials. I believe that chemistry has the potential to solve many of the world’s most pressing problems, and I think I would find great satisfaction in contributing to this important field.
Anything else interesting?
One of my favorite projects that we are currently working on is an ultra-luxury beachfront residential condo development in Miami. I have the privilege of designing the entire common areas and the model units, which is truly exciting.
There are a few things that make this project particularly enjoyable for me. The location is breathtaking. The development is situated right on the beach, which allows me to draw inspiration from the natural surroundings and create a design that truly captures the essence of the location.
Another aspect that makes this project so enjoyable is the level of creativity and freedom I have been given. The client is very open to new ideas and is willing to take risks, which enables me to push the boundaries and come up with some truly unique and innovative designs.
