Sturge Toth

Project MY 1K by Sturge Toth

Sturge Toth has been shortlisted for the Refit Award in The International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2022.

The 33m Mangusta Veyron now named 1K has recently undergone a major 6 month refit by Sturge Toth to complete this holistic transformation.  The client was unsatisfied with the original tones and material scheme as well as the level of luxury and comfort the yacht originally had. Aiming to maximize on entertainment features and integrate multi-functional bespoke furniture, Sturge Toth have created spaces that allow for vibrant social activities and intimate entertainment or privacy at the same time.

The brief was to develop a holistic interior design concept around a new GA layout suitable to the owner’s lifestyle, whilst maintaining only the most critical original structures. The complete interior was replaced with bespoke furnishings and a fine selection of materials and bespoke decorative patterns. It was important to reflect the owner’s preference of glossy black and white palettes alongside unique furniture pieces and design details inspired by Grecian and Roman architecture.

The client had not used the convertible roof on the main deck which allowed Sturge Toth to enclose this space and allow for a large concentric ceiling feature with a chandelier. The contours of this ceiling feature are made from hundreds of backlit crystal prims with brass trimming and Rolls Royce inspired fibre optics, resembling a special star constellation was part of the versatile lighting ambience in this area.

Whilst retaining a high level of natural light with the use of gloss finishes and mirrors allowing natural sunlight to bounce across the room, Sturge Toth have created an atmospheric mood throughout the entire interior for evening and night mode, using a vast amount of warmly backlit quartz tops to translate the magic beauty of the golden hour into a lasting ambience of the new interior. All areas have been maximized in terms of functionality and storage space, such as the two dominant Roman inspired columns that morph into 3d-curves to wrap into and around this ceiling section mirroring the bespoke dining table which was created to enable a formal interior dining area.

Strong contrasts of black and white monochromatic and ivory tones, as well as soft and hard material combinations are carried throughout the interior, following the clients request to remove all original bleached wood and grey leather panelling to create something truly unique on this Mangusta. The name derives from the Yachts bespoke logo, created with the Roman number One and the Grecian Sigma, encoding a monogram with personal meaning to the client.
