SYLKA Carpets and Rugs have been shortlisted for Flooring Award in  The International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2022.

Sylka Carpets were asked by world-leading interior designer John Vickers to create a stunning floor design for the incredible and awe-inspiring 36-metre all-aluminium superyacht built by distinguished Dutch boatbuilder, Mulder Shipyard. SYLKA set about crafting a unique custom-designed carpet using its unique Hand-tufted techniques.

SYLKA Hand-tufted is the next step in luxury and allows for the creation of completely bespoke handmade rugs and carpets. Sharing the same wonderful lustre that SYLKA is world-renowned for, Hand-tufted offers interior designers, boat builders and architects the ability to craft one-off pieces to suit a wide range of luxury applications. This was put to full use by John Vickers to create a unique Shifting Sands design that replicated the look and feel of sand dunes, which tied in well with the modern design and unique beach house-style interior of the Calypso I.

Made from an entirely custom colour, the design of the Shifting Sands carpet from SYLKA had to complement the soft pale oaks, neutral fabrics and leather, which sought to replicate the natural materials found in and around the world’s most luxurious beaches. With SYLKA’s carefully crafted Hand-tufted service, Vickers Studio was able to specify the bespoke colours and designs it needed, creating an extremely unique look, while having the durability to take on the rigours of everyday life aboard a charter yacht, making it ideal for this incredible vessel.

Both the boatbuilder and John Vickers have been highly complementary, not only in the design and opulence offered by SYLKA but also in the incredible characteristics of SYLKA’s NuSilk micro-fibre system, which sets it apart from its competitors. The flooring design complements the natural theme of the Calypso’s interior and has held Vickers Studio tie together key elements of its interior design on this magnificent superyacht.

Hand-Tufted is created by highly skilled artisans who spend hours meticulously ensuring that each carpet and rug meets the very highest standards. Handcrafted using the second generation of the award-winning NuSilk fibre, SYLKA Hand-tufted is soft to the touch and is easy to maintain and clean.
