The International Design & Architecture Awards 2025
A tented ceiling and walls, draped in rich, pleated alpaca fabric developed in collaboration with Sandra Jordan, establish a tactile, enveloping environment. The tenting installation, executed by the Cornice Queens, was meticulously hand-pleated on site, with each fold sculpted individually to ensure a tailored, architectural finish. This handcrafted canopy lends the room a unique spatial identity, transforming the ceiling into an integral design element.
Anchoring the space is a custom bronze dining table with matching chairs, surrounded by antique furnishings and gilded brass accents. The result is a collected aesthetic – one that feels cultivated over time and rich in narrative. Susan Chastain’s draperies further enhance the ambiance, with layered fabrics and nuanced tonal variations adding depth and softness to the vertical surfaces.
Completing the room’s intricate detailing, Eva-Lena Rehnmark’s hand-painted Moroccan tiles infuse geometric vibrancy. Inspired by traditional zellige patterns, each tile was individually painted, striking a balance between historical ornamentation and modern sensibility.
Julie Rootes Interiors has masterfully curated a space where classic, ethnic, and contemporary influences converge. The result is a dining room designed not only for visual impact but for lived experience, family gatherings, candlelit dinners, and cherished conversations, brought to life in a setting of elegance, craftsmanship, and intentionality.
