Gold Coast Redux

The renovation involved addressing a peculiar layout, particularly in the kitchen, which previously featured awkward seating nooks that obstructed the enjoyment of the home’s large windows. By opening up the space, the design allowed for a more intuitive flow, creating a beautiful new dining area and seating space in front of the windows.

The project included extensive structural improvements to the family room, where sagging walls were corrected. This provided the opportunity to display special surfboards, a tribute to the client’s father, a renowned Australian surfboard maker.

Several unique elements were integrated into the design, such as a coffee bar countertop embedded with Jurassic-period fish fossils. A vibrant rainbow rug and various wood tones brought brightness and personality to the home, while the coffee bar was redesigned with black cerused oak grain and a gray finish for added texture. The dining area featured bold orange Gubi beetle chairs, a Saarinen table with an Arrabescato top, and a Pelle Bubble chandelier wrapped in leather. A custom marble mosaic backsplash added a touch of intricacy to the kitchen’s window wall, complemented by wallpaper in the coffee bar area echoing the rug’s design.
