After the damage, Murphy embraced the opportunity to transform the space, drawing upon her new expertise as a professional interior designer following her graduation from the New York School of Interior Design (NYSID). She envisioned a brighter, eclectic, and sentimental home that reflected her deep connection to the sea.

Her redesign was deeply personal, incorporating whimsical yet refined elements throughout. A significant feature is the staircase wall, where Murphy framed her four children’s bathing suits, preserving cherished summer memories and encouraging new ones. This project began her design career and has since remained her family’s beloved vacation home.

K.A. Murphy Interiors, now established with offices in both Long Island and Manhattan, has gained recognition in leading publications such as Architectural Digest, Traditional Home, House Beautiful, and The Wall Street Journal. The coastal theme of the home shines through with unique details like ceramic fish light fixtures, horseshoe crabs on the walls, and sea-themed wallpaper. Designed for entertaining, the space accommodates large gatherings, with seating for 16 in the dining area and expansive French doors that seamlessly connect indoor and outdoor living spaces.
