Katrin Mood Design undertook the transformation of a 115-square-meter apartment situated in a pre-war building in central Budapest. The objective was to create a space that exudes a dreamy, romantic ambiance with subtle vacation-like undertones while seamlessly integrating historical elements with contemporary design.

The client, Danica, envisioned a home that was both charming and stylish yet highly functional and comfortable. A significant challenge was the apartment’s layout, particularly the placement of the kitchen, which was located immediately to the left of the entrance and at a considerable distance from the living room.

At the commencement of the project, the apartment was entirely stripped of flooring and doors, and its 4.2-meter-high ceilings accentuated the spacious yet unfinished nature of the interior. A previous renovation attempt had been unsuccessful, and due to the client’s professional commitments in Africa, the project had been delayed for nearly three years.

Danica embraced an innovative approach, encouraging Katrin Mood Design to experiment with creative solutions that would not only enhance functionality but also reflect her personality and lifestyle. The design process prioritized authenticity, warmth, and livability while respecting the apartment’s historical essence. The firm aimed to evoke positive emotions through design, believing that emotional resonance is the true measure of a space’s value.

While preserving the charm of the pre-war architecture, Katrin Mood Design carefully curated furniture, color schemes, and lighting to introduce a fresh, uplifting perspective. Rather than treating the apartment as a static historical artifact, the design approach embraced it as a living canvas, harmonizing its past with a renewed sense of vibrancy and warmth.
