TRUNK(HOTEL) YOYOGI PARK

TRUNK(HOTEL) YOYOGI PARK in Tomigaya, Tokyo is a seven-storey boutique hotel designed by Keiji Ashizawa Design. It offers 25 guest rooms, including five suites, a rooftop lounge with an infinity pool, and a ground-floor restaurant. Guided by the concept of Urban Recharge, the design balances compact spaces with a calm and restorative atmosphere. The rooftop pool frames views of Yoyogi Park, while the Italian restaurant opens directly to the surrounding neighbourhood.

Concrete forms both the structure and the interior and exterior surfaces. Its raw, moduled expression creates a quiet rhythm and a sense of unity throughout the building. The washed concrete exterior sits naturally against the park’s greenery, giving the impression of a building that has long belonged to its setting. Balconies, defined by distinctive handrails, visually connect the hotel to the city and the landscape beyond.

Keiji Ashizawa Design collaborated with Norm Architects to create new furniture tailored for each space. Lounge chairs, balcony seating, sofas and water-repellent pieces for the pool bar were produced with Japanese makers Karimoku and Ariake. Custom carpet was created with Hotta Carpet in Osaka. Bespoke copper wall lamps, pendant lighting by Kojima Shoten in Kyoto and other crafted details reinforce a contemporary Japanese identity. Copper elements, inspired by the restaurant’s pizza oven, appear in lighting, shelving and the entrance facade.
