Skalla Residence

Designed by Khoury Vogt Architects, the Skalla Residence is a refined coastal retreat located one row back from the oceanfront in Alys Beach, a New Urbanist community along Florida’s Emerald Coast. Positioned on a compact lot, the residence was carefully oriented to frame strategic view corridors toward the Gulf, balancing privacy with openness.

The town’s master plan encourages density while preserving Gulf vistas across multiple rows of homes. Within this framework, the site’s modest footprint is offset by its allowance for three levels, creating a vertical townhouse composition. The main living areas occupy the second floor, the primary suite resides on the third, and a roof terrace crowns the structure, capturing sweeping views of both the Gulf and the whitewashed townscape.

A dramatic entry hall defined by plaster groin vaults leads to a sculptural stair that ascends toward natural light. The intermediate landing opens to a private courtyard, where a pool set at the lot’s edge visually connects to the sea. The second floor features a luminous kitchen bridging the courtyard and Great Room, extending to a shaded loggia with oblique Gulf views.
