Tell us a little about your background in design:
After a total of four apprenticeships in craftsmanship and design, as well as further international training and internships in interior design and lighting design,I founded my company, Kitzig Interior Design, 25 years ago.
How would you describe your personal design style?
For me, it’s vitally important to create interior design specific to the tastes of the people it is intended for. I love interior design that’s exciting and energised through contrasts. These days, we’re very fortunate to draw inspiration from an increasingly wide range of fashion, music and art.
In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?
Design is becoming more diverse, more individualised and more wide-ranging. I believe that interior design is a reflection of the Zeitgeist, consequently, going forward, I see it as offering increasing sanctuary and warmth.
What was your most challenging project to work on and why?
The profession of an interior designer IS challenging: projects with different requirements, deadlines with different parameters. Planning and executing projects throughout the Coronavirus pandemic has been my most challenging task in the last 25 years. When all’s said and done, the business of interior design is a deeply personal and sensual undertaking. It can be challenging to convey and empathise with the nuances of its multidimensional nature via video conferencing.
