Tell us a little about your background in design (education, experience, etc)
After finishing my degree in Interior Architecture at Brighton, I did an internship at a start up interior design company in London and stayed there for a couple of years, then moved on to work for a few more small studios before starting out on my own, which was a happy accident and never intended.

How would you describe your personal design style?
Timeless and elegant in a classic-contemporary style, with an emphasis on bespoke, personal and highly-considered design.

Where does your design inspiration come from?
The incredible projects I work on. The buildings history, character and vernacular, that’s what informs the origins of the interior design scheme on every project. Also the people and clients I work with, it’s inspiring bringing someones vision to life.

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?
Personalisation, individuality and true personal expression. Having no inhibitions to show who you are and what you like through your home is the ultimate authenticity in design I believe. I see a movement towards this, which is very exciting for us as designers.

Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in the future.
Materiality, textural tactility, suitability, functionality and mood creation.

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to designing, what would it be?
No detail is ever too small to consider. The best designs I’ve ever seen are the ones where even the tiniest, most insignificant details are made significant by a unique detail or adding a special touch. It’s the culmination and layering of all these small details where a good design comes alive.

How important are The International Design & Architecture Awards?
Interior design awards hold a special significance in the design world. They serve as a celebration of creativity, craftsmanship, and innovation, highlighting the incredible talent within our industry. For me, they’re also a benchmark for excellence—a moment to reflect on the thought, care, and dedication that goes into every project. These accolades not only recognise the work of designers but also the artisans, craftsmen, and collaborators who bring our visions to life. Beyond the recognition, they inspire us to continually raise the bar, ensuring that we deliver spaces that are not only beautiful but deeply meaningful for our clients. These awards reinforce a sense of community in the industry, provide inspiration and opportunities to celebrate peers who share in our passion and create a drive to push the boundaries of design.

What projects are you currently working on?
A contemporary villa in Miami, a country estate in Yorkshire, a historical property in Scotland, a luxury Bahamian apartment, a family home in Richmond, a private spa in Hampshire, a collection of villas in the Middle East, a Sussex mansion, a holiday home in Portugal, and a handful of super prime central London apartments and townhouses in Belgravia, Mayfair and Fitzrovia.

What was your favourite project to work on and why?
Our Isle of Man family home, we had a really special relationship with the clients while we were creating their life-long dream house. They had great ideas and exciting requests, but they gave us full trust and freedom to design what we thought they’d love, and they did love it! We’re still friends with them to this day.

What was your most challenging project to work on and why?
We’ve seen it all, Grade I listed planning restrictions, overseas logistical challenges, install mishaps, even divorces! But it all comes with the job we do, and tackling these inevitable challenges is what makes us learn and improve the quality of our service. This job has truly made me believe there’s nothing we can’t handle!

Which products/services could you not live without when designing?
A good contracting team, great logistics and shipping companies and bespoke furniture-makers, joiners and craftsmen. It takes a whole team to make it all come together seamlessly.

What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months?
We hope to successfully install and complete quite a few projects this year. In 2025 we’re finishing a family home in Richmond, a historical property in Scotland, a North London family home, a period townhouse in central London and a contemporary apartment in Knightsbridge to name a few- and hopefully have the joy of very happy clients at the end. We also have big plans for our homeware business, Laura Hammett Living. We have new furniture and lighting designs to launch in our Modern Heritage and Contemporary collections, along with new accessories coming soon. This Spring we will be launching a paint and wallpaper collection which is so exciting. Then later in the year we hope to launch a third furniture and lighting collection which I can’t name yet – but stay tuned!

Your most treasured possession?
A clock I inherited that belonged to my great-grandfather, an heirloom I hope to pass down to my children.

Your favourite holiday destination?
I love going to Greece with my family and sometimes some of our friends with their kids, its loud and hectic, but fantastic. Or taking the kids to New York at Christmastime is so special, we always find the bench in central park where Aaron proposed to me and get a photo! Every year I also do a girls trip to Formentera in Spain with two of my oldest friends which is a lifesaver, it keeps us all sane!

Your favourite hotel?
The Rosewood London

Your favourite way to spend an afternoon?
In front of the fire with a glass of red wine, with my husband Aaron, our two children, a cat on my lap, watching a film. I’m definitely happiest in the comfort of my own home!

If you weren’t in this sector, what would you alternative profession be?
Event and party planning. I love hosting and go all out when I do. I think my attention to detail and experience managing logistics would make this an easy transition if I ever tire of Interior Design!
