Shortlisted: Bathroom - Global Award

The International Design & Architecture Awards 2024

Laura Stein Interiors was commissioned to design a principal ensuite that embodies the essence of a mountain spa retreat while avoiding the heavy ski lodge aesthetic. The client’s vision emphasized incorporating abundant stone and wood elements, creating a warm contemporary space filled with natural light and ample storage. The original room presented a design challenge with its awkward hexagonal shape, necessitating a redesign to square off the space, enhance functionality, and maximize natural light.

The redesign utilized the additional space on the sides to introduce a large steam shower and a separate water closet, complemented by built-in storage and an expansive double vanity. The choice of materials played a pivotal role in achieving the desired ambiance. Large format travertine tiles and river rock limestone were selected to add texture and evoke a connection to the outdoors, while rich walnut millwork contributed a warm, luxurious feel.

The layout of the ensuite is meticulously planned to ensure functionality, allowing two individuals to use the space simultaneously without inconvenience. Features include linen storage, substantial his and hers cabinets with pull-out laundry hampers, and a double vanity. The warm color palette, combined with natural elements, promotes relaxation and tranquility, perfectly aligning with the spa retreat concept.

Laura Stein Interiors’ thoughtful design approach successfully transformed the principal ensuite into a serene and functional space. The integration of natural materials and efficient layout not only enhances usability but also creates a calming, spa-like atmosphere. This project showcases the designer’s ability to blend contemporary aesthetics with natural elements, resulting in a luxurious retreat that meets the client’s desires for both beauty and practicality.
