Shortlisted: Interior Design Scheme Canada Award

The International Design & Architecture Awards 2024

The client casually mentioned her long-held dream of owning a Fortuny light fixture, though she never imagined it would be possible. Laura Stein Interiors embraced the challenge, aiming to fulfill this aspiration. The principal bedroom, with its high vaulted ceiling, provided an ideal setting for this exquisite fixture, which then served as the foundation for the entire design.

The primary objective was to create a beautiful and serene retreat for the clients, offering a respite from their busy lives with three young children. They envisioned a light, soft, and neutral color scheme, striving for a space that felt both luxurious and sophisticated, yet comfortable and lived-in.

The millwork, ceiling, and trim were all painted in a soft white, establishing a clean, fresh backdrop. The floors were refinished in a mid-tone brown, adding richness and depth while harmonizing with the flooring throughout the house. Textural linen wallpaper envelops the room, enhancing the overall look while providing a cozy ambiance. Subtle and muted patterns allow the light fixture to remain the focal point. Brass accents, luxurious drapery, and a hand-knotted rug complete the ensemble.

Laura Stein Interiors designed the space to be both luxurious and cozy. The use of warm, textural fabrics such as felted wool, bouclé, and linen, combined with a soft, fresh color palette, achieves this goal. By maintaining a muted and simple overall design, the Fortuny fixture stands out as the centerpiece. This design philosophy extends throughout the entire house, featuring muted colors, warm woods, textural wallpaper, and brass accents to create a cohesive, luxurious, and comfortable home.
