Maoliosa was appointed to deliver a scheme that balances bespoke craftsmanship with contemporary living, while honouring the building’s rich heritage. Originally founded over a century ago by William Whiteley as London’s first department store, The Whiteley has been reimagined as a prestigious residential and hospitality destination, retaining its legacy of ambition and creativity.
Responding to the apartment’s volume and luminosity, Maoliosa introduced a series of bespoke joinery elements that define and anchor each space. In the open-plan living area, a large-scale library installation crafted in black Bird’s Eye Maple incorporates discreet storage and a porcelain-toned, grooved veneer panel. Designed as a moving artwork, this feature conceals a television behind a sliding façade. The dining area is complemented by a three-metre walnut side cabinet with an integrated hidden bar. These pieces were meticulously handcrafted by Irish master craftsman Cillian Johnston.
