Nash Baker Architects has recently completed an ambitious interior design project for interior designer Cleme de Grivel, who found her dream home in the heart of one of London’s most sought-after neighbourhoods. The Victorian townhouse, previously a rental property, underwent a remarkable transformation to accommodate Cleme’s growing family and eclectic design preferences.

Upon acquiring the property, Cleme enlisted Nash Baker Architects, with whom she had collaborated previously, to reimagine the space. Design Director Ahmed Shawky spearheaded the project, focusing on optimising natural light and creating expansive living areas overlooking the west-facing garden.

A key aspect of the redesign was the addition of rear extensions clad in rich patinated bronze, replacing previous failed attempts to reconstruct and expand the building. This revitalisation helped to address the family’s need for space and light while preserving the historical character of the home.

To further enhance the building’s functionality, Nash Baker Architects relocated essential utilities to a new basement level, freeing up the principal floors for living and entertaining areas. This basement also accommodates an arts and hobby room for the children and a well-equipped gym for the parents, adding versatility to the home.

The project also prioritised improving the building’s fabric, with measures such as acoustic separation and comprehensive thermal insulation installed throughout. These enhancements ensure a serene and energy-efficient living environment for the family.

In terms of interior design, the project strikes a balance between minimalist aesthetics and bold colours and patterns. Clean lines and uncluttered spaces provide an elegant backdrop for vibrant furnishings and artwork, reflecting the divergent tastes of the homeowners.

Nash Baker Architects’ collaboration with Cleme de Grivel has resulted in a harmonious blend of architecture and design, where light-filled spaces and playful accents come together to create a vibrant and inviting family home in the heart of London.
