Nicholas Anthony has unveiled an elegant and deeply personal bathroom retreat that blends Regency inspired sophistication with contemporary practicality. Designed for a distinguished Cambridge residence, the Porson Bathroom is tucked beneath the eaves of the home, reimagined as a private sanctuary that offers serenity and indulgence in equal measure. The brief called for a space that would honour the classical character of the property while providing a calm and functional environment for its owners, both of whom work in the intense setting of a major trauma and research hospital.

Nicholas Anthony approached the project with a refined sensitivity to the architectural heritage of the home and the emotional needs of its occupants. Rather than viewing the sloped ceilings as a limitation, Nicholas Anthony embraced them, placing a sculptural freestanding bath beneath the incline to create a striking focal point. A discreet walk-in shower enhances the room’s sense of openness, and concealed storage within bespoke panelling keeps the space clear and composed.

The material palette employed by Nicholas Anthony is a masterclass in understated luxury. Soft tones of dove grey and warm putty, drawn from the adjacent dressing area, provide a calming backdrop. Marble-effect porcelain tiles flow seamlessly from floor to wall, and composite stone vanity tops bring both refinement and resilience. Chrome framed mirrors and glass partitions add to the overall sense of lightness.

A mural style wallpaper depicting herons in flight introduces a quiet connection to nature, while curated lighting casts a warm glow throughout. Every surface, material, and design choice made by Nicholas Anthony invites mindful interaction, transforming the bathroom into more than just a functional space. It becomes a haven of stillness and grace, an intimate retreat that captures the essence of timeless beauty and contemporary living.
