The Glar Conference & SPA Hotel, located on the tranquil shore of Lake Wiselka on Poland’s Wolin Island, exemplifies the innovative work of NOKE Architects. Tasked with creating a design that honours the region’s natural and cultural richness, the team immersed themselves in the Baltic environment, collaborated with local archaeologists, and drew inspiration from Wolin’s vibrant history as a medieval trade hub. This meticulous research shaped an interior design that weaves together history, nature, and modern luxury.

The hotel’s eight distinct room configurations highlight NOKE Architects’ thoughtful approach, balancing wabi-sabi aesthetics with refined details. Raw ceiling casts and friezes with circle motifs, inspired by sand imprints, coexist with textured finishes like brushed wood, soft woven fabrics, and smooth glass. Sinks made from grooved boulders echo the region’s natural rock erosion.

Shared spaces further emphasise this narrative. The restaurant, with its impressive two-storey glass-walled design, connects the interior to the scenic lakeside terrace. Mosaic-decorated pools by Polish artist Ola Niepsuj, featuring shimmering wave patterns and a swan, enhance the spa area. Facilities like the salt graduation tower and saunas were adapted for Scandinavian preferences, ensuring both local relevance and international appeal.

Through NOKE Architects’ bold and innovative design, the Glar Hotel transcends traditional hospitality. The result is a multisensory experience that seamlessly integrates Wolin’s timeless elements with modern comforts, offering guests a unique connection to the island’s history and natural beauty.
