Tell us a little about your background in design:
I studied at The Designers Institute in Dubai where I gained a strong foundation in both the creative and technical aspects of interior design. With about 10 years of experience, I’ve worked on a wide range of residential and commercial projects, several of which have received industry awards for design excellence.
My work has also been featured in prestigious publications, which has been a rewarding affirmation of my passion for creating thoughtful, distinctive spaces. I’m continually inspired by collaborating with clients and transforming their vision into environments that truly reflect their needs and personalities.

How would you describe your personal design style?
My design philosophy centers on achieving harmony through the thoughtful interplay of contrasting elements and meticulous attention to detail. I favor a neutral palette as a foundation, complemented by purposeful accents of bold color or detail to create visual impact. By blending contemporary and classic influences, I strive to craft spaces that are both current and enduring—timeless designs that resonate with authenticity and character. My designs are also focused on functionality and simplicity that are both measured by the client’s personal needs.

Where does your design inspiration come from?
I find inspiration for my designs in everyday life.Whether it’s a beautiful color combination I notice while traveling, the play of natural light in a space, or even conversations with my clients about their lives and what makes them feel at home. I love exploring art galleries and local markets, which often spark new ideas for materials and textures.I also draw inspiration from the architectural elements of the spaces that have to be designed, the shape of the windows, the direction of the light, the height of the ceilings and so much more.
For me, the best inspiration comes from connecting with people and the world around me, then translating those influences into unique, meaningful interiors that truly reflect my client’s personalities.

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?
Design is moving towards more expressive, personal, and sustainable directions. Trends for 2025 highlight bold colors, eco-friendly materials, and a revival of ’80s and ’90s aesthetics. Designers are increasingly focusing on spaces that feel layered, lived-in, and full of personality—combining different textures, tones, and meaningful objects that tell a story. Technology integration and well-being-oriented design, such as bringing in more natural light and greenery, are also shaping the future.

Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in the future.

These are five themes to consider for future-focused interior design:

1. Sustainability: Using eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient solutions to create healthier spaces and reduce environmental impact.

2. Technology Integration: Seamlessly incorporating smart home systems and innovative tech for convenience and adaptability.

3. Flexibility & Multi-functionality: Designing adaptable spaces that can easily shift functions, supporting changing lifestyles and remote work.

4. Wellbeing & Biophilic Design: Prioritizing natural light, greenery, and layouts that support mental and physical health.

5. Personalization: Creating spaces that reflect individual identities, values, and stories through custom details and curated elements.

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to designing, what would it be?
One key piece of advice I would offer is: Always design for the people who will live or work in the space. Listen closely to their needs, preferences, and lifestyle, and let those insights guide your choices. A truly successful design balances beauty with function—and feels meaningful and comfortable for those who use it every day.

How important are The International Design & Architecture Awards?
The International Design and Architecture awards are quite significant in the industry. They help recognize outstanding creativity and innovation, set benchmarks for excellence, and highlight emerging trends. Winning or being shortlisted for these awards can boost a designer’s reputation, credibility, and visibility—often leading to new opportunities and collaborations. They also provide inspiration and foster a sense of community among professionals worldwide.

What projects are you currently working on?
I am currently working on a private residential project in the Hamala district in Bahrain, an apartment in the Silicon Valley area in Mumbai, India and a few other projects in Dubai.

What was your favourite project to work on and why?
My favorite project to work on was the Nad al Sheba residence. It was especially memorable because it challenged me to blend contemporary elements with completely minimalist approach, creating a space that felt both modern and timeless. I particularly enjoyed working closely with the clients, who trusted my vision and allowed me to incorporate custom details—like bold accents within a mostly neutral palette—which really brought the interiors to life.We had the ease to work on this property without any problems as the client’s lived elsewhere. The restricted use of accessories, textiles and other materials was challenging.Seeing the transformation and the clients’ satisfaction at the end made it an incredibly fulfilling experience. This project also when on to win the Dubai Top 50 homes award in 2023.

What was your most challenging project to work on and why?
My most challenging project was the complete renovation of the Emirates Crown residence. The transformation called for a nuanced approach: introducing bold color accents while preserving a predominantly neutral and soft palette, resulting in a harmonious yet visually striking interior. A significant aspect of the project involved thoughtfully remodeling and incorporating the clients’ existing furniture, ensuring each piece contributed to the renewed design narrative. Overseeing the entire process—from conceptualization to execution—not only revitalized an aging apartment but also demonstrated the power of blending innovation with respect for personal history. Navigating these complexities required creative problem-solving, adaptability, and attention to detail, making the project both demanding and deeply fulfilling.

Which products/services could you not live without when designing? E.g. Lighting companies, furniture companies
As an interior designer, I truly cannot live without access to good lighting solutions. Lighting completely transforms the atmosphere of any space—it sets the mood, enhances colors, and highlights key design elements. Whether it’s finding the perfect statement pendant or layering ambient and task lighting, it’s essential to creating beautiful and functional interiors.
Furniture and material stores are indispensable for me, as they offer the wide range of pieces and customization options needed to bring a client’s vision to life.
I also particularly feel that the work of a designer is incomplete without a good team of contractors. They bring in the main structure and details such as the flooring and the ceilings and so much more that any design needs and is completely dependent on.

What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months?
I am currently working on 2 international projects which are also my first projects outside Dubai.I hope to be able to complete these in the next few months although working on projects abroad can be quite challenging.I have planned on a new website and branding plan for my company and I will try to expedite this process in the coming months. We have already been designing our own furniture and we hope to introduce more products to our clients in the coming months.

If you weren’t in this sector, what would you alternative profession be?
I think I would still be designing or creating in some way.I would have loved to be a jewelry designer with my own product line.

Anything else interesting?
I was born and brought up in Singapore and I decided to pursue my passion in interior design when my children grew up and started working.I was already in my 50s at that time.
I set up my company after I graduated and I worked on my projects alone from concept and design to sourcing, execution and styling.I hope to write a book on interior design some day and I’ve just recently started to learn about jewelry design.I also love cooking and entertaining.
