Tell us a little about your background in design:
Our design team includes a dedicated CAD team with bachelors and masters degrees in product design, and our head of product design has almost 20 years of experience working in the luxury lighting industry. Not to mention our managing director has 35 years of experience in various elements of the luxury home furnishings industry including carpets, wallpaper, fabrics and lighting.

How would you describe your personal design style?
At Bella Figura we don’t limit ourselves to just one design style as we have product ranges from very traditional all the way through to ultra contemporary. However, all our ranges have one thing in common; elements of Art Deco styling.

Where does your design inspiration come from?
Each of our collections from the last decade begins with a theme that provides the well to draw inspiration from. For example, our Vega collection drew inspiration from the mind-boggling wonders in outer space, while our recent Anima collection was based on energy and motion. Importantly, all our collections draw heavy inspiration from the design characteristics of the Art Deco period.

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?
For lighting it definitely seems like design is becoming more contemporary and minimalist. There will always be a market for the traditional English country home look, but we see far more new companies offering contemporary product over the more traditional styles.

Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in the future.
Craftsmanship, quality of materials, versatility, customisability and allure.

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to designing, what would it be?
Primarily, you must create an object of desire. No amount of marketing can cover up for a poor product.

How important are The International Design & Architecture Awards?
The awards gives suppliers a powerful platform to reach a wide audience of international clientele to not only inform on what makes our products luxury, and ultimately costly, but to celebrate the hard work and decisions that goes into making them. Suppliers are often overlooked in terms of accreditation in the interior design world, but no design scheme would be possible without us. We think this makes the awards an extremely important event for everyone in the interior design community.

What projects are you currently working on?
Expanding our range of accessories, a dedicated yacht compatible product range, a lighting collaboration with a prominent interior design company, and a new themed collection of our own.

What was your favourite project to work on and why?
Our recent Anima collection was my personal favourite because of the unique challenges the lifestyle photoshoots presented. The first shoot was all done in a studio where our talented stylist’s team created the biggest sets we’d done to date, which naturally became an all hands on deck situation. The second shoot was all done out of an abandoned Art Deco style hospital. Due to the dilapidated nature of the venue, this caused many headaches in terms of power supply and ensuring the crews safety. To make things even more interesting, the last day of the shoot in the hospital was on Halloween!

What was your most challenging project to work on and why?
Our Vintage and Reflect collections were simultaneously shot at an enormous grade 1 listed stately home in the North of England. Not only did we have to be extremely careful about not damaging anything, but we also had to keep channels open and safe for tour groups moving through sets and adhere to strict rules regarding which rooms we could use.

Which products/services could you not live without when designing?:
Our network of small, family-run workshops across Europe make everything possible. Without them and their generations worth of expertise, we would have no product!

What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months?
To continue keeping our many projects on track, further improve our customer service, bring our lead times down as much as possible for made-to-order product, and increase our brand awareness to new and exciting markets.
