Tell us a little about your background in design:
I grew up in Cairo in a home where my finance banker Mom taught us the value of money, engineering precision and artistic expression lived side by side. My father, an engineer and artist, taught me to see beauty in structure and structure in beauty. I graduated in Interior Architecture and, within two days, landed my first role. My career began in Egypt, but in 2010 I moved to London, where I worked with Chapman Taylor and later Hirsch Bedner Associates. It was there I met my husband and now business partner, Albin Berglund. Together, we launched Bergman Design House in 2017, and today our projects span from Chicago, Bahamas, Maldives to Norway, London to Dubai and Saudi Saudi Arabia.

How would you describe your personal design style?:
I don’t believe in having a fixed “signature” style. My work is driven by a layered, eclectic narrative—each project begins with its own story, its own soul. I listen to the building, the client, and the location, then let the concept take shape. I love to have fun.

Where does your design inspiration come from?:
From theatres, travel, and art galleries, the project brief itself and I often start with a single piece of art—whether a mural, sculpture, or painting—and let it anchor the entire space.

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?
Towards slow luxury—authentic, timeless, and meaningful. We’re moving away from fleeting “Instagram moments” and towards spaces with soul, rooted in craftsmanship and sustainability.

Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in the future. :
Art as Anchor – Let emotion lead the concept.

Timelessness over Trend – Create for decades, not seasons.

Layered Sustainability – Blend old, new, and responsibly sourced.

Nature’s Influence – Bring green into every space

Collaboration – Work with artisans, taste makers, and specialists.

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to designing, what would it be?:
Be consistent. Keep showing up. Talent matters, but endurance is what turns vision into reality.

How important are the Awards?:
They’re an honour—especially winning Designer of the Year in 2024—but they’re not the goal. The true reward is when a client walks into a space and feels completely at home. the award is the Cherry on Top that makes me happy. I usually put the award next to my bed for the first night 🙂 hush hush don’t tell anyone…

What projects are you currently working on?:
A landmark resort in Neom, Saudi Arabia; several superyachts; a luxury Resort in Bahamas, and another in Maldives and few private residences in London and abroad.

What was your favourite project to work on and why?:
Ah! all our projects are special to me, as if they are my babies!

It’s a new project and I haven’t revealed it yet The Regent’s Crescent townhouse in London. Balancing Regency elegance with wabi-sabi warmth was a dream. It felt like weaving two worlds into one.

What was your most challenging project to work on and why?:
The Other House hotels. Each Room had a different design and colors, aside from shafts that didn’t stack! Designing 85% sustainable interiors with mostly UK-sourced products was a creative puzzle, extreme budget yet delivering 5 star quality. But constraints often sparks the best ideas.

Which products/services could you not live without when designing?
Art and Lighting—it’s the invisible storyteller. Bespoke furniture, like our Blackberg line. And, of course, meaningful art.

What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months?
Designing Jets, expand our global footprint, deepen our artisan collaborations, and continue delivering spaces that are as emotionally rich as they are beautiful.

Your favourite holiday destination?:
Somewhere rich in history and adventure, I loved my Kazakhstan expedition this year led by the wonderful Medina.

Your favourite way to spend an afternoon?:
I love an afternoon spent in an art gallery, a bookshop, or sourcing art/antiques.

If you weren’t in this sector, what would you alternative profession be?
If I weren’t a designer, I’d be an artist—still telling stories, just with a different medium.

Anything else interesting?
I’m up at 5 a.m, always. 10 min of gratitude, then into the creative whirlwind.
