How would you describe your personal design style?

EscapefromSofa’s philosophy is centred on transforming spaces by combining high aesthetic standards with functionality in every project. The designs integrate modern lines with natural materials to create a style that is both timeless and contemporary. Our team focuses on capturing perfection in every detail while aiming to provide original and personalised solutions suited to the needs and lifestyles of our clients. EscapefromSofa does more than simply create spaces; we design them to enhance the daily quality of life for every user.

We generally favour pastel tones in our materials and colour palettes, as they bring a sense of calm and softness to the environments we design. However, we do not shy away from incorporating bold colours when a project calls for a vibrant touch. These pops of colour are thoughtfully integrated to add depth and interest, ensuring that each space not only reflects serenity but also exudes a dynamic and inviting energy. This approach enables us to create designs that are both soothing and lively, catering to diverse aesthetic preferences and enhancing the overall atmosphere.

The signature element in EscapefromSofa’s designs is characterised by a sophisticated and minimalist approach. Our studio uses high-quality materials and clean lines to bring an elegance to spaces. Each project places great importance on unique design details that merge functionality with aesthetics. EscapefromSofa’s signature style also includes flexible, user-focused design solutions that can be customised to align with clients’ personal tastes. This distinctive approach ensures that each design not only appeals to the eye but is also practical and functional.

A successful project, to us, achieves a harmonious balance between functionality and aesthetics. It must meet the practical needs of the user while also enhancing the visual and emotional quality of the space. A project is successful if it is completed on time and within budget, while still exceeding client expectations in terms of design quality and usability. Additionally, a successful project should be sustainable and have a positive impact on its environment, contributing to the well-being of those who interact with it daily. Ultimately, success is defined by a project’s ability to integrate seamlessly into its intended context, providing both immediate satisfaction and long-term value.

Where does your design inspiration come from?

We draw inspiration for our designs from nature, art, and the energy of city life.. We are deeply inspired by a blend of Far Eastern aesthetics and the Bauhaus school of design. The minimalism and emphasis on natural elements that characterise Far Eastern design resonate with our philosophy of simplicity and harmony in spaces. This influence is seamlessly integrated with the principles of Bauhaus, which emphasise functionality, clean lines, and the unity of form and function. By merging these two influential design movements, we strive to create spaces that are both intuitively comforting and strikingly modern, embodying a balanced approach to living environments.

Additionally, our team closely follows global trends while incorporating local craftsmanship. These diverse sources of inspiration help create a modern yet timeless atmosphere in each design. Every project by EscapefromSofa achieves a perfect balance between aesthetics and functionality, transforming spaces from mere places to live into immersive experiences

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?

Design is increasingly moving towards a more sustainable and timeless approach, reflecting a deep shift in values across the industry. Sustainability is no longer a buzzword but a fundamental pillar in design, influencing material choices, production methods, and the lifecycle of products. Designers are now deeply considering the environmental footprint, opting for eco-friendly materials, upcycled resources, and processes that minimise waste, ultimately creating designs that are both beautiful and responsible.

Alongside this, there’s a growing emphasis on timelessness in design—creations meant to transcend trends and remain relevant over years, even decades. This philosophy, which values lasting aesthetics over fast-changing styles, complements sustainability by encouraging designs that won’t quickly become obsolete. Timeless design fosters a connection between the object and its user, creating lasting value, both functionally and emotionally. As a result, we’re witnessing a movement towards designs that are as enduring as they are environmentally considerate, aligning beauty with a commitment to the planet.

Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in the future.
1- Sustainability: As environmental knowledge and awareness grows, sustainable design is essential. This means prioritising renewable materials, reducing waste, and designing for the full lifecycle of products, including end-of-life recyclability.
2- Timelessness: Moving away from fast trends, future design will focus on creating pieces that endure both aesthetically and functionally. Timelessness encourages thoughtful design that can integrate seamlessly into various contexts and remain relevant over time.
3- User-Centric Innovation: Design must increasingly centre on the user experience, emphasising accessibility, inclusivity, and customisation. With advancements in technology, there’s a greater focus on tailoring designs to meet individual needs and preferences.
4- Digital Integration: As our environments become smarter, design needs to account for seamless digital integration. From IoT-ready objects to interactive spaces, future designs will need to enhance the relationship between technology and everyday life.
5- Emotional Connectivity: Design in the future will consider the emotional impact on users, crafting experiences and products that foster a meaningful connection. Whether through storytelling, cultural resonance, or sensory engagement, creating emotional depth will make designs more memorable and valued.

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to designing, what would it be?
If I could offer one piece of advice in design, it would be: be bold. Don’t shy away from taking risks, experimenting with new ideas, or pushing boundaries. Boldness in design means not only creating something visually striking but also challenging norms, innovating with materials, and daring to incorporate unique perspectives. Bold design stands out because it has character—it tells a story, evokes emotion, and leaves a lasting impression. Remember, the designs that truly resonate are often those that weren’t afraid to be different.

How important are The International Design & Architecture Awards?
The International Design & Architecture Awards are incredibly important as they set a global standard for excellence and innovation in the industry. They offer designers and architects a prestigious platform to showcase their work to an international audience, enhancing awareness of different design approaches and styles. The awards encourage designers to push creative boundaries and adopt new approaches, fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Beyond recognition, they help shape trends, influence best practices, and inspire emerging designers, making a meaningful impact on the direction of design and architecture worldwide.

What projects are you currently working on?
Currently, we’re engaged in a range of exciting projects that allow us to explore various scales and styles in luxury design. We’re working on a 3000 m² villa in Abu Dhabi, focusing on creating an expansive, elegant living space that blends contemporary aesthetics with regional influences. In Istanbul, we’re designing penthouses for both the Four Seasons and Kempinski Residences, where we aim to bring sophisticated urban living to life through unique, high-end interiors.
Additionally, we’re developing a 2000 m² villa in Bodrum Mandarin, a project that lets us integrate the beauty of coastal landscapes with luxurious, serene interiors. Lastly, we’re working on the headquarters of a construction firm in Istanbul, crafting a space that reflects their brand identity while prioritising functionality and a modern, professional atmosphere. Each of these projects presents unique challenges and inspirations, allowing us to push the boundaries of our designs and innovate our approaches.

What was your favourite project to work on and why?
It’s hard to choose a single favourite project because each one holds a unique place in our journey and brings its own excitement and challenges. Every project we take on, whether it’s a luxury villa, a sleek penthouse, or a cutting-edge office space, becomes a fresh adventure and an opportunity to push our creative boundaries. Each design reflects our commitment to crafting spaces that are both innovative and deeply connected to the needs and dreams of our clients. For us, the true reward lies in the diversity of these experiences and the privilege of bringing each unique vision to life.

Which products/services could you not live without when designing?
When designing, there are several essential elements that we rely on to bring each space to life, but lighting holds a special importance. Quality lighting is crucial not only for technical reasons, such as proper illumination and energy efficiency, but also because it profoundly influences the perception of depth and spatial openness. The right lighting can transform a room, adding warmth, enhancing materials, and guiding the mood and flow of the entire design.

What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months?

In the coming twelve months, our aim is to breathe life into spaces that tell stories beyond walls and windows. We seek to craft designs that resonate with soul, weaving timelessness with innovation. Our goal is to push boundaries softly yet boldly, creating places where light and shadow dance, where textures evoke memories, and where each corner whispers elegance and purpose. As we step forward, we are inspired to deepen our connection to sustainable beauty, to honour the harmony between form and function, and to bring dreams into tangible, lived reality.

It’s a personal archive of growth, exploration, and endless possibility.

If I weren’t in this sector, I would be a watchmaker. The precision, patience, and artistry required to create timepieces fascinate me. There’s something deeply satisfying about crafting a mechanism where every tiny part works in harmony, each gear and spring meticulously placed to create perfect rhythm. It’s a profession that balances engineering and artistry—a quiet, timeless craft where attention to detail defines everything.
