Tell us a little about your background in design:

I was born in 1970 and raised in Mersin TURKEY ( South of Turkey ). My father was an engineer. My moms interest in design had a major influence on me at a young age; I’ve studied at the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design at Bilkent University, Ankara, TURKEY.

After that I started to work under the supervision of an experienced interior designers at a various design & architecture firms . I opened my own interior design firm at 2012 as Esra Kazmirci Mimarlik ( Esra Kazmirci Interiors ). Esra Kazmirci Interiors is an Istanbul based interior design studio along Interior design and construction firm for residential, hospitality and commercial interiors, exteriors and landscape.

How would you describe your personal design style?
Contemporary and eclectic at the same time. In the direction of our clients request, we’re trying to create a common space by suggesting our taste. According to the priorities and the life style of our clients, we pay attention to use functional and aesthetic criteria together. It must be timeless, must be peaceful, dreamy and must give you a joy… must absorb you, there must be life experiences, it must give you a peace and pleasure, there must be a color harmony, an oppositeness must be created, a balance must be provided with the accessories…

Where does your design inspiration come from?
Sometimes a window which is facing a tree or sometimes an old library is enough for me to improve the general concept of the space. Everywhere…every moment…
As the trends differ in style and material over time, I take care that the spaces I create are timeless and furnished with elements that are suitable for the spaces where they are applied.
Sometimes you can make big changes even with small touches. One should not forget to try to direct the designs by considering aesthetic concern and artistic perspective.
It is very important for me to make the living areas more free and peaceful.

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?

People are becoming more knowledgeable and trying to use a modern technology .
Interior design in 2025 will be characterized by a blend of innovation, sustainability, and personalized aesthetics. Expect to see a surge in walk-in pantries, vibrant colors, technology integration, and geometric elements in homes.

Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in the future.
Combining style with functionality, sustainability, wellness, use of post-waste materials, also in 3D printed textiles. And also free-flowing shapes, color gradients, metallic speckles.

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to designing, what would it be?
The most helpful recommendation that I can give to those who wants my consultancy is to design their own spaces in a flexible structure according to their pleasure which can change over time and more use of natural materials with organic qualities.
