How would you describe your personal design style?
My personal design style is rooted in the feeling of warmth, comfort, and a deep sense of belonging—that unmistakable sensation of “coming home.” For me, design isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about emotional resonance. I’m continually inspired by the ways in which this feeling can manifest differently for each individual, and I strive to explore those nuances with every project.
Personally, I gravitate toward a palette and materiality that evoke grounded serenity: organic textures, warm tones, greenery that breathes life into a space, and natural wood elements that add depth and soul. I love clean, modern lines balanced with rich layers—spaces that feel lived-in and curated, never stark or overly composed. If I could describe my ideal environment, it would feel like a warm embrace at the end of a long day—a quiet, nurturing retreat that reflects authenticity and ease.
That said, I don’t view design as a one-size-fits-all approach. While my own style informs my perspective, my role is to uncover what “coming home” means for each client. Through collaboration and attentive listening, I translate their story, lifestyle, and emotional touchpoints into spaces that feel intimately theirs. At Nunu Interior Design, our process is rooted in this philosophy—creating interiors that are not only beautiful but deeply personal and inviting.
Where does your design inspiration come from?
Much of our inspiration is drawn from nature—both in its literal form and in the more abstract sense of what it offers emotionally and mentally. Spending time immersed in natural settings allows us to step away from the noise of daily life, creating the mental clarity needed to think more expansively. It’s in these quiet moments—walking through a forest trail, listening to the rhythm of water, or feeling the texture of stone—that new perspectives often emerge, subtly guiding our approach to design challenges and creative direction.
On a more tactile level, nature’s palette and textures are a continual source of inspiration. The soft layering of earth tones, the organic irregularities of raw materials, the interplay of light and shadow filtered through leaves—all of these elements inform how we view and shape our projects. There’s an honesty in nature’s imperfection, and we strive to carry that sensibility into our work: creating spaces that feel grounded, harmonious, and connected to something greater than themselves.
At Nunu Interior Design, we believe that inspiration is not always about what you see, but how you feel—and nature offers a rich, ever-evolving canvas for both.
In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?
As life becomes increasingly fast-paced and chaotic, we believe design is naturally gravitating toward creating sanctuaries—spaces that nurture peace, balance, and emotional well-being. The future of design feels deeply rooted in intention, where the home becomes a restorative haven rather than just a place of function. We’re seeing a beautiful shift toward environments that support self-care, encourage meaningful connection, and celebrate slowing down.
What projects are you currently working on?
We’re currently immersed in a collection of exciting residential projects each spanning more than 6,000 square feet and offering unique design opportunities. Among them is a beautifully envisioned cottage nestled in Muskoka, Ontario. We’re also collaborating with a local builder on a townhouse development in the same region, allowing us to work on community design.
Adding to this momentum, we’re thrilled to be working on our first international project—a private residence in the Bahamas. This milestone not only expands our geographic reach but also invites us to explore new cultural and environmental contexts in our design process.
What was your favourite project to work on and why?
It’s hard to choose a single favorite project because each one offers a completely new and meaningful experience. What we love most is the diversity of stories we get to engage with—meeting new clients, understanding their lifestyles, and uncovering what “home” truly means to them. Every project presents a fresh opportunity to connect, create, and be inspired in different ways. It’s that constant evolution and the personal nature of each collaboration that keeps our work exciting and deeply fulfilling
What was your most challenging project to work on and why?
We truly welcome a good challenge—it’s often where the most growth and creative discovery happens. While every project comes with its own set of complexities, we choose to view those moments as opportunities to learn, adapt, and evolve. Whether it’s navigating unexpected site conditions or aligning multiple visions into a cohesive design, each challenge sharpens our problem-solving skills and deepens our understanding of the craft. Rather than singling out one as the most difficult, we embrace each with the mindset that every obstacle is a stepping stone toward becoming better designers and collaborators.
Which products/services could you not live without when designing? E.g. Lighting companies, furniture companies
We couldn’t imagine our design process without tools like AutoCAD, Revit, and SketchUp. These programs are invaluable to us—not just for visualization, but for truly understanding how every layer of design connects. From architectural details to spatial flow and furniture placement, having the ability to model and verify how each element interacts allows us to design with both precision and intention. It’s through this technical clarity that we ensure our concepts are not only beautiful, but fully integrated and responsive to the space as a whole.
What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months?
Over the next twelve months, our focus is on intentional growth—not in volume, but in depth. We’ve made a conscious decision to slow down slightly in the studio to ensure we can give each project the meticulous attention it deserves. Our aim is to create truly meaningful experiences for our clients, grounded in care, clarity, and creativity. By giving ourselves the space to be fully present in each phase of the process, we believe we can deliver not only beautiful design but also an exceptional journey. We’re confident that by prioritizing this level of service, the right opportunities will continue to flow naturally
