Tell us a little about your background in the sector (education, experience, etc):
30 years within the marine industry in exterior, interior and naval architectural design. With a unique broad based background encompassing high volume production yachts through to both new and refit superyachts I have brought into the industry innovation that is market leading. I lead a highly talented international team that delivers yachts that are desired by clients worldwide and remain timeless.

How would you describe your design ethos?
Fully commit at the start, fully engage during the development and build and ensure the journey is enjoyable for all parties. How the project is perceived to develop by the owner will stay with them throughout their yacht ownership. Even though ultimately you are working for the client this can be achieved by understanding and working WITH the client and yard. Design the yacht as if it is my own.

Where does your design inspiration come from?
Learning from my father Bernard Olesinski, David King and owners themselves.

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?
Collaboration with trusted, personally known studios. Artificial intelligence can be used to inspire, challenge and reduce development times.

Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in the future. :
Know your client. The demographic, age and gender will change.
Design every yacht to be more environmentally efficient than the last
Optimise design to ensure crew are well looked after
Design yachts that inspire future generations of designers.
Create yachts that provide a connection between the sea and themselves. Without this the next generations will not be inclined to look after something they do not understand or enjoy

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to designing, what would it be? :
As you begin designing learn from your mistakes.

How important are The International Yacht & Aviation Awards? :
The IYAA are important for both those within the industries and those outside highlighting what is possible by some of the talented designers in the world.

What projects are you currently working on? :
7 x production new builds <40m
1 x 65m refit
2 x 60m+ refit conversions from commercial to private owner
1 x 65m new build

What was your favourite project to work on and why? :
They are so different that they are incomparable. They are all my favourites.

What was your most challenging project to work on and why? :
One of the above projects is extremely challenging even more so than originally though. The yacht is full of novel surprises that demand innovative thinking and prolonged development. Hard work but incredibly rewarding.

Class representatives, awning, lighting & deck hardware.

What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months? :
To deliver 5 new builds to our highest of standards, start another 60m+ new build project and to continue to sustainably grow in the superyacht sector using collaboration with other studios.

Your most treasured possession? :
My health.
